You mentioned vacation rental, is there any attraction near by? Most of the beach rentals I stay in have somewhat of a beach theme and you could hang a surfboard, beach picture or large oars on the wall. Same idea if its close to skiing, a river, etc...

Otherwise you might consider some larger scale art to take up more wall space. I have used minted.com to get unique art (already framed) at a reasonable price point.

I would suggest a longer larger piece of artwork with some color in it.

Sigh....this is what happens when architects and engineers don't talk to designers before building. That huge vent is so awkwardly placed and makes decorating tough. In an attempt to embrace it, consider a gallery wall with frames of difference shapes and sizes, but the same color. I'd probably pick a darker frame. Frame around the vent, too, so it fits in with the other frames and it doesn't seem so out of place. Geometric/patterned artwork in the other frames can make it stick out even less.

Is this the "man cave" of the rental? I've managed vacation rentals for 15 years, and I don't see anything indicating that this is a home for fun and relaxation. It looks like it was put together with cast off furnishings and just a pair of typical box store sofas. The French style end tables masquerading as a coffee table are a big fail. Better bare walls and the right kind of coffee table if budget is holding you back! Empty the walls and room of everything except the sofas, which I assume you can't replace. Then go on VRBO and search for vacation rental properties in your area, or that are located in a similar spot for activities. Find some pix of rentals you admire and aspire to and copy them. No fake plants, please, and no "stand-in" furniture trying to be something it isn't. Craigs List can help you get rid of some and find replacements.

What deco said. And NOTHING expensive! Nice things WILL disappear! We stay in vacation rentals often, and what we want is CLEAN, with everything working as it should. Comfortable seating and beds, a place to sit and have breakfast. Decorative stuff, not so much.

You need a sizeable, colorful piece of art above the sofa. Tie the colors in the art to pillows and other accessories. Remove the tables between the sofas and place them on the end of the sofas with lamps for a place to set a book, drinks etc. and read.

A pair of chairs in front of the window would have been a better choice, especially in a narrow room.
