Go to Ikea and design your kitchen. If you're that concerned about wear and tear, go with a product that if a door is damaged, you can just go buy a replacement.

You also might want to consider stained lowers or lower cabinets painted a darker color - darker gray or blue. One thing I like about the following pics is they have some personality - not just the same white kitchen that is becoming a bit ubiquitous.

yes, factory finish wears better than on-site painted finish. Ikea could be a good option except for their bizarre choice to offer only off-white and not white cabinets right now. there are probably good choices at the box stores -- I know that Diamond cabinets also offer a TrueColor finish that's not paint but a laminate, which performs well and looks nice while saving money over paint -- again, might make it less painful to imagine replacing a damaged door if you went that way.

You might consider stain grade cabinetry. A chip in the finish is less noticeable than a chip in a painted door.

ACM... those look nice! Did you feel like the cabinets felt cheap or was really noticeable that it was laminate? I actually prefer a warm white or off white cabinet ;)

jhmarie, we don't have a large kitchen, so I don't know if doing different colors would make it look to closed off and busy? Currently we have 30" ugly oak cabinets with 9ft ceilings, so it probably looks smaller than it truly is. Here are pictures from MLS before we purchased it last year. The floors are darker now and the paint is a light greige. We are going to replace the counter tops and backsplash also.
