I love looking at your huge collection of hosta. I just purchased Hans. Nice to see a larger plant. I think it is unusual. I especially like Chinese Sunrise.

Great photos. My favorites are Sharp Dressed Man, Blue Angel and the Cutting Edge leaf photo. I also purchased Hans, but mine is quite a bit smaller. Now I know what it will look like in a year or two! Lovely!

I also would like to know where you are putting all these hostas! I understand that you are interested in building some kind of vertical structure. Me too! We need to have a new fence on one side of our property. I am thinking that when the new posts are cemented for the fence, I could just get an additional couple of posts cemented too. I could use these posts to attach poles or something in order to hang some hostas! I haven't quite got all the details, but I am working on it! (Shhhh . . . haven't told my husband yet!)

You have to be creative if you want more hostas:-) Here in Europe there are a lot of serious collectors and they build whole hostas houses in their gardens. They are open constructions, with shadownets as roof and basically the same as the construction Dave showed lately. But they add a lot of shelves and so it is possible to have three times as much plants per square meter...lol, I wouldn't have thought about this when I got my first two hostas! Hanging baskets are also an option...

I found those metall basket holders last weekend and added them to the recently built structure...Not a solution for big hostas but for the new ones and small lovely ones.

Hans is a good looking hosta, I got it from the Netherland greenhouses, they all look quite big when you get them, but next year it will be surely smaller, because I do not use much fertilizer. It is a sport of Andrew.

Yesterday a colleague from the office visited my garden for the first time and she said that she would like to stay forever...It was a sunny day and birds and bees and bumblebees were like crazy and I noticed that I have a litte green paradise in the middle of town...

I will give away some of the big ones I ordered to my friend's big garden next year or in two years, just enjoy to see them grow for a time and then submit to reality...

I love the "hosta houses" similar to what Dave built. The only thing for me is that I already have a shaded backyard so I don't need a rooftop. Also, I feed the birds which, in turn, brings in critters. I have had pots knocked down from shelves or from the top of my retaining wall structure. I need to have the pots somehow secured. So as a hosta lover I am often dreaming of possibilities for my pots. But where there is a will, there is a way!

Here is a small wall planter I was able to purchase a couple of years ago. I have two of them. It has three shelves and I was able to angle them to face the light. I just secured it with plastic ties.

And, of course. they are for small pots. I tend to put the smaller hostas in square containers so they will fit there nicely.

Isn't it great that your colleague loved your garden! You must have felt a sense of pride and joy . . . you have created your own little "green paradise!"

Giving your large hostas to your friend sounds like a good idea. Reality will set in, yes, but the future is unknown so let's just enjoy our beautiful hosta and gardens. . . today!

Jill, that kind of fence your little planter is fixed to would be perfect for hanging pots or fixing shelves on it! I will have to look for some like this. It looks very stable! I can not fix things to the walls here, my appartment is rented and I wonder every day why my landlord is not saying that I have changed his garden too much...But I'm lucky, he is one of the green fraction...

I also changed to square containers this year. Wouldn't have thought, but better to arrange them than the round pots.

I know I can not keep all those beauties when they are as big as they will get in a few years, but who knows, future could also bring a bigger garden :-) But I have alternatives, that's good to know! Carpe Diem!

I found an old candelabra at the scrap metal dealer today for 5 Euro...it is now home to 8 small hostas :-)

Tomorrow we have a holiday in Germany, so time for gardening :-) Hope the weather will be better. It is still ups and downs here, from 28 yesterday to 15 today, crazy...

I am glad that your landlord hasn't said anything negative about your garden. I am sure you have beautified the area immensely from what it was. The landlord is lucky to have you!

Yes, the square pots do fit together better. Even for winter storage, the pots can be placed closer together.

I am at a stage where a few of my hostas are getting large for my space. I am considering making a new garden bed. The only problem is that the bed would be in full sun. Otherwise I have a shade garden.

That candelabra is a great idea for your hostas! I love it! Good thinking!

Hope you had gardening weather today for your holiday. It is a rainy, cold day here with temperatures around 10 degrees celsius. Where's the good weather! I want to do some serious gardening!!!!

Jill, gardening weather was perfect, did some rearranging and got some plants from my colleague into the beds and dug out two big ones to be moved to other gardens:-)

The green hostas do very well in sun here. Irish Luck, Celtic Uplands, Terpsichore and of course Royal Standard. And also June, June Fever and MA.

When I moved in more than 30 years ago my garden was an old vegetable garden, overgrown with weed :-( It changed slowly, from year to year, always a little bit of progress...
