Blank canvas! How would You Design it??

I'm in the market to purchase a dining table, at least 8 dining chairs, a rug, and a buffet. The room is 17 1/2 ft x 11 1/2 foot. There are a lot of neutral colors in my home and I hoped to add a pop of color in this room. I personally have in mind a dark table and either emerald green or midnight blue velvet tufted dining chairs. I have no clue on a rug or buffet that would look great with the look I have in mind. I have a traditional home. I will add a few photos of dining room looks I love in the comments. Thank you for your design!

Flo, you are soo sweet! I will put stuff together and let you know if we are able to shop this weekend. It's my husband's birthday so I want to make sure he's good with 'light shopping' before making plans

If you're still in the market for rugs, I photoshopped a few more with your updated image.

30017 Transitional Rug (muted, nice warm tones)

Vintage Turkish Oushak Rug 9'3 x 13' (yellow tones with emerald green hues)

80326 Vintage Persian Tabriz 09'06 x 12'07 (modern with variegated shades of green)

    Too many chiefs?

Esmaili rugs! The updated images really do chandelier the dynamics don't they!!! Yikes, not the same room at all! Like the cream rug and the green one too!
I meant changed ! Hee ! I guess I have written " chandelier " so many times my auto correct just puts it in!

I don't think that is the shade of green Kristen has in mind. If you go way back up in the thread she posted cut glass crystal vases that are more Irish Emerald green. But I don't see green on the rug in this room. Too limiting.

Probably not Flo but it is a gorgeous rug for sure!

You would have to be really careful with the greens for sure. I think I would prefer the green contrasted more with the rug, given the table is very dark.

Oh, this would never be something I would try unless I was on site! No way!!! Risky at best but that glass is not an easy thing to integrate either;)!

For sure. Too bad that glass isn't cobalt blue!

I wonder if this rug is overdyed? Very soft and lovely! I must say the vignette is very rich and the greens look beautiful together!
I still think a softer greenish blue would do the trick

I really don't think the emerald green is the way to go..this room is so soft and delicate with the subtle damask wallpaper and Chrystal chandelier..I would go deep taupe or a soft blush velvet on chairs and have a rug with the same tones and with some soft blush...taupe and maybe some bits of a soft green..a deep walnut table.......it would be so beautiful...I think the green chairs will be fun at first but short lived!

What a beautiful space! Either of these tables would look stunning. I also like your idea of blue, tufted chairs. Good luck on your project!

    Hi Kristen,
Beautiful choices of color for your formal dining.
Were you able to find the chairs and table you were looking for? If not, I can certainly help you with that.
    Let me know!

Hi HIWE, not sure if you read through the whole thread. Kristin has wanted green chairs from day one! I have always been on the fence on that though. I am with you on the softer palette here. She has a whole collection of this green glass that she wants to incorporate into this space though! Thus the dilemma;)

Kristin bought this table for those that missed it.

Yes I know....emerald green chairs....not with that very dark stained table so gloomy:( oh well Her green glass collection would look much more special without having to compete with green chairs and dark table..keeping the palette light will really let the glass collection be front and center..would really be very chic!

Oh boy, HIWE, hope all goes very well, and you are back on line in a jiffy! Will be praying for best doctors, surgeons, nurses and other caretakers to be with you and your family, and successful and rapid recovery! You know what they say, surgery is minor when it is somebody else and MAJOR WHEN it is you! Take care.

Have you thought about removing the drapes? The windows are beautiful. I'd like to see some nice silk panels just on either side of the window.

This is the most stunning suggestion of this entire email stream! I am building in a few months and plan to include that entire dining room into our main house! Beautiful and Light yet sophisticated; great job Claire. I am following you now!

What a great room! You have so many beautiful details already. I like an eclectic mix of furniture pieces. If you enjoy estate sales, even thrift shops (here in NYC the antique dealers can be seen lining up very early on Saturday mornings, coffee in hand, to see what has come in to the Salvation Army Store - no kidding!) you may find something very special for your dining room at such a place. I would paint your walls and get rid of the wall paper. You can go dramatic here with color if you like. If you entertain often you may want to make sure your table extends with several leaves. Chairs to not need to match, consider matching pairs of chairs, just cover the cushions identically. If a dramatic wall color is too big a change, choose a colorful rug and take your wall and cushion color from there. If there are woodworkers in your area you may find something very special or commission a custom table or buffet while supporting a local craftsman.

@Deborah - Kristen has purchased a table and it is pretty modern in styling. So, we haven't heard back from her in quite a while. Just thought you might want to know.

Hi Kristen how is it going so far?

Love the room... thinking you found what you were looking for by now in a dining set and carpet. But... if is was me - I would take down those curtains and enjoy the glory of the windows that dominate the room. Cutting those beautiful windows in half seems rather dated. The drapery might be better used in another room where you could enjoy them at the top of another window - bedroom - living room. I love the large mirror and would "re-think" the buffet to something more like a smaller server chest that you could set things down, but not dominate the room. Buffets tend to be a large object in the room that are never "used" for what they were intended...more for decoration and storage than anything. You may enjoy having more space available in the room when you do have a large gathering.

I am sorry for my delay in response and updates. I got my rug and table in!! I'm still deciding on chairs. I also would like recommendations on where to buy beautiful long drapes and what color. Thank you!!

How do you think Lockhart chairs at the end and Kenyon chairs in the middle would look in this green color?

I did a mockup this way you can help you decide which works best I actually like both

Oh by the way your pedestal table and rug looks great

Thank for sending that!! I love how you can put furniture in a room to see how it fits. Would you do 8 Kenyon chairs in the middle and 2 Lockhart chairs for the ends?

I would do all Lockhart chairs in the green upholstery you have the height to carry it off will give a WOW factor for sure! You need a big new chandelier to add more drama to the space!

that Lockhart chair is gorgeous just what this room needs!
