What a pretty space! Could you place a console table behind the sofa and place a lamp or two on it? You could then add some art in between.

grapefruit1_ar Thank you! We've recently downsized to a much smaller house and I am struggling so much trying to decorate this place. I have console table in mind that I will probably get and will most likely put a lamp on it. It's the wall space I'm struggling with. I keep going back to pinterest and the whole "Fixer Upper" rustic farmhouse look, but I'm worried it will be too busy and cheap looking to be honest. I don't want anything too formal (been there, done that) however I'm trying to avoid the entire room looking shabby.

rnonwheels - I'm not sure what type of industrial containers you mean but I will search the web for that idea believe me! We have used the bench for a coffee table temporarily but it's honesty too small and narrow for us. I want a big square coffee table or ottoman with storage for the space in front of the couch. Thats something I will get later. We have been in this house a month now and I can't seem to get the wall decor ideas flowing. I see things I like on Pinterest but get overwhelmed with the picture frames, shelving, monogram initials..it all starts to look the same and basic.

Well, the hutch sitting in front of a window looks very odd. You can see it lit from behind, so the window is not at all hidden. I'd deal with that first.

tatts, that's the last of my worries. I need it for storage until I can replace it with a smaller cabinet at some point. There are 3 tall windows and a big sliding glass door in the back of the room that one will most likely be blocked a bit. this house has very limited storage and closet space unfortunately

I love clocks too! I purchased one last week from World Market. It fights with my light fixture above the dining table (my ceilings are low) so I will find another spot for it. Maybe the hallway or my bedroom

wow love your space. Add a large piece of Art over sofa and make it the focal point to anchor a room. A large piece of Art can really bring in a wave of deftness and add more color and life to your room. It acts as a style to your room.

Yes indeed, that colored map of the world is beautiful. Be careful to buy it in the right size though. This house is smaller, so the art must be adjusted to it. We still want to see the couch and not only the art.

Are you thinking of putting up some curtains as well? Also by the dining table? If not at the dining table, than I would put another vertical eyecatcher in the corner. A tall but small plant could be nice. Or a tiny (say 8 inch square) but high table with a nice tall decorative piece of art on it.

I happen to do like clocks. Just not where you've put yours, on top of the armoire. And here again: do not go for the oversized clocks in a house that doesn't give it room to breathe.

Okay, so two things .... you need to pull that area rug in underneath your furniture, and if it's not big enough to do that, then you need a bigger area rug. Then, no furniture at angles in corners. So find another home for your booze cabinet. Depending on the size of the room (which I can't tell from the pictures), I think you have two choices for that large wall. Either put a console table behind the couch and push the couch back next to it closer to the wall (put two lamps on the console table and hang art in between on the wall), OR pull the couch even further into the room and put a long buffet type piece of furniture on that wall.

The hutch isn't staying in this room permanently, only until I can find another space for it in the house. Most likely it will go in a bedroom or the garage. The area rug is also temporary, It will go in our office once I pick out a different & bigger one. I'm not putting up curtains, I like the openness that over looks the fairway. I am looking into a big vase with some sort of filler for the back corner of the dining area. Not sure about the wall decor yet, still looking at artwork and shelving. I have a gorgeous mirror from Uttermost but its too big for the space behind the table and I don't think I want it behind the couch. Everybody's tips and ideas have been really helpful.

Heather here are some vessel ideas for seperating the dining from the living room wall areas

I love the pieces you have in there but feel you need to define the 2 spaces so it doesn't look like your couch is in your dining room and vice versa. Can you angle your couch differently to create 2 spaces? It may be easier to decorate 2 separate spaces than 1 big long wall. Love the large clock idea too!

unfortunately the couch has to stay put. The tv is mounted on the fireplace directly across from it.
