This week I finished hand-piecing some hexagons that my mom had started. I made them into a long runner for my triple dresser. This weekend I plan to piece backing for it. I'm going to leave it at two layers (no batting) and sew it with the "birthing" method.

Sunday is the first anniversary of my mom's passing; it will be a good day to be working on something she started.

I finished labeling and washing my Hawaiian quilt last night, so I'll be mailing that off today to my friend on Maui. I'd like to start working on the next few months' lotto blocks. (That's why I bumped the thread up.) I have five quilt tops hanging in my closet with their backings, so maybe I should sandwich one of those and get it ready to quilt. My One Block Wonder is assembled and waiting for borders. It's gotten so big that I don't think it will fit hanging on the wall where I planned to hang it. I have 32, 8.5" scrappy log cabin blocks finished. I thought I needed only 36, but a quilt that is 48" square doesn't seem too practical (except as a child's quilt), so I may make 48 blocks to make it 48X64. I want to start another scrap quilt using my pile of 2 or 2.5" strips, so I'll have to search Bonnie Hunter's site for another pattern. I've also got 31 of the 48 string blocks I need for another of her quilts.

My husband is the oldest of ten children. He is especially close to four of his sisters. I'd like to give them each a quilt, but I don't know what they would like, and there's no way I'm "taking orders." My thought is to finish about six to eight quilts that I made just because I wanted to, and then to let them choose which one they would like, if any. My problem is that I keep finding other people to send them to. I think I'm getting close though, if I just finish what I've got in progress.

Wow, I'm getting overwhelmed!! It finally looks like it may be a dry day today, so maybe I can get some mulch spread and some annuals planted. I thought I would have so much time after I retired, but I seem just as busy as ever. I guess that's a good thing, right? Have a great weekend, everyone.

I hope to work on the binding for this very colorful scrap log cabin block quilt. I didn't have a multi-color stripe to do it with so I went to Joann's this morning. (I really like the look of bindings made with striped or plaid fabrics.) Of course since I still had money left on a couple of gift cards I bought some more fabric. I've been trying to buy fabrics with multi-colors to use on borders for quilts with many different colors. I've been making very colorful quilts lately, mostly from scraps. When I decide to make borders it's sometimes hard to decide on what color so I've found that multi-color fabric works best.

I might try to get the backing done for the April Lotto quilt. All this rain and dreary weather is playing havoc with the arthritis and so I have been dragging my weary self around, having a pity party or two. Time to buck up and get at it. Hope you all have a lovely holiday weekend. Our holiday, Victoria Day, was last weekend, a good time for getting some planting done.

I picked up my daughter's quilt last night and started working on the borders. I decided to have someone come and paint the porch floor, her bedroom and the bathroom. Porch is done and he is returning on Tuesday to finish up the rest, so I want to have the quilt done ASAP. I'm only working on one quilt at a time this summer, so I don't feel any pressure.

We have a graduation party to attend on Sunday..........it starts at......9AM.......at Rainbow Springs. It's Memorial Day week-end and that place will be crowded. However, a pavilion has been reserved so there will be a place to sit as we won't be tubing down the river, canoeing or any water stuff like the youngsters will be doing. When we get home, we'll probably nap, so no sewing on Sunday. Tomorrow is looking good for it though. Not sure what it will be, but it will be something. :-)

It's very cute! And nice to have a project like that to work on!

Love the cute scrappy paper-pieced block. I like the term long term project. Mine are essentially UFOs.

I've been obsessed with free motion quilting of late and trying out different designs. Here's a practice piece with a few designs:

I'm loving the feather design with pebbles to fill the narrow spaces. Watching lots of Leah Day and Angela Walters on YouTube. Also doodling on every piece of paper I can find at home :-) and

Wow, impressed with your free-motion, Vasu. Sharon, I can just picture you tubing down the river, are you sure you won't be joining them? You know I love scrappy and those squares are beautiful. Did you find the pattern online or did you buy it? I have crazy square blocks (I think 4") I make from time to time. I have no idea when I'll have enough for a quilt though.

You all have some ambitious stuff going on!! I'll be happy to finish a little patriotic table topper this weekend!! After that's done, I'll look back at my goals for the month of May and see what I'll do in three days!!! Hahahaa. I'm juts happy to be back sewing; it feels like therapy. I LOVE the free motion you've done, Vasu! It's intriguing, but scares me to even try! Donna, a perfect way to remember and think about your mom!!

I did get the April lotto quilt finished, backing, sandwiched, quilted and bound.

I got the borders on the scrappy strip quilt, so that's done. Now to press and get a picture of it. Didn't go tubing, Bev! It was a looooong walk (maybe a mile) from the van to the pavilion even though the handicap parking made it closer for us. Sure glad I took my walker with the seat! All the 'elderly' people there were jealous, but we do what we have to do for family. Resting today and plan to sew (or iron) later on. :-)

Bev, I found the pattern on line about two years ago, but do you think I could find it today.. ha, I've looked and looked...I have no idea where I got it from, but it's there somewhere .,. :-)
