Sound buffering in a co-op building.

I am considering purchasing a co-op, but the rules insist on carpeting except in kitchen and bath. I believe there are now hardwood and hardwood look-alike products that should give equivalent-to-carpet sound buffering. Can anyone provide materials that document this? I understand that there are three different sorts of sound transfer that should be considered. The floors of the units are concrete and have in-floor heating. It is a late 1940s building. Thanks for your help.
