We are purchasing a new home; 31 years old. It has been meticulously maintained however doesn't look like anything was updated - including the pink carpet. Taking it one room at a time this family room will be one of our early projects. I'd like to get some feedback on this fireplace surround. It is huge spanning just over 10 feet, the heatilator vents are ugly, the mantel seems too high, and there is a ton of concrete block work behind this. I'd love to have built ins flanking a smaller fireplace however I don't know if it will be possible as there is so much block behind this thing. I'd love some feedback on how to deal with this beast!
