It looks like sun damage to me.

In addition to the several dead (but not spreading) areas, it looks generally bleached. Perhaps this particular plant needs a bit of shade.

That is a nice looking Aloe and very much worth saving. You in the desert? It might need afternoon shade.

Ventura?!? Wow. Do you water it at all? Ventura should make it pretty happy. Is it getting reflected heat from a sidewalk or masonry wall? Is it getting any irrigation? Also check for an ant infestation in the area--if you give it a soak and ants boil up, bait for ants, because they nurture pests like mealy bugs and scale that can damage the plant. In the winter when we were getting rain, was water pooling in the leaves in those damaged spots?

The flower will be a good indicator of what species it is, so when it flowers get a couple of good photos. I can't place it. Ferox, maybe? It helps to know the species of Aloe, because while many are summer dormant/winter growing, there are some which are summer growing and need some summer irrigation.
