Magnesium is rapidly leached from soil so in high rainfall situations it needs to be supplemented often. You need to also balance that against the waste of applying and having it washed away by a lot of rain before plants can access it. I tend to apply during lower rain periods which allows it to be absorbed by plants and micro-orgasnisms which sort of makes it 'slow release'. Generally I sprinkle about a handful widely around the plant.

So maybe I could water weekly with a solution...epsom salt package says 1 TBS per gal. of water....

Sounds good, and just monitor how the plant responds.

What color pot? In sun or shade? Very likely overheated/cooked roots. Remember that the roots of plants in the ground never get hot. Plants are not happy in black pots or black nursery pots in the summer when their roots get cooked.
