Someone came out to take measurements and I'm going this week to look at windows. I'm not opposed to doing casement windows again, I just really want the look of grids in the windows. Do you think that grids such as this will look out of place on our home?

I'd stay with casements, a darker window and if you want divided lites, 2 over 2.

Thanks for the reply. I realize that picture is not similar to my home in the least, it was just a photo of a casement with a grid style that I like. I am very into interior design and enjoy making my home look and feel beautiful. I honestly don't consider myself an amateur at design but I've not done much with exterior work. I don't want to make this ranch look as though I'm trying to force it into a style that it isn't, I simply want to give it a more welcoming and less modern appeal. If casements are what this style demands then that's ok with me, I honestly didn't know. My main concern before sinking a large chunk of cash is whether or not the sdl grids will fit on my style of home.

That's a detail typically used on craftsman style homes, and would to me, look out of place on your house.

How about a prairie style grid?

The closest I can establish it to be is MCM or rambler. To be honest, MCM is my absolute least favorite of all styles. How can I help it become less modern and more cozy?

Really love these looks. Decided we are definitely going back with casements. Anyone out there that is savvy with photoshop that could give me a visual on my current ranch with windows like this. The largest window would be a large picture window in the center and flanked by two casements with grids. Any help would be so appreciated. I cannot figure out how to do the photoshop and I really want to get a feel for what it will look like. Thanks in advance.

I like the second photo but not crazy about the true prairie grid. I replaced the front door recently and would love to tie the windows and doors together visually. Here is the new door

True dividing light or simulated divided light windows are very expensive. Snap in or between the pane muntins are an unfortunate, but understandable compromise people make when they have a traditional house and don't want to spend well over $600 per window.

A benefit of having a house than is not particularly suited to divided light windows is that you can get appropriate replacement windows at a a more reasonable price point.


That said, I think your house would look very nice with casement windows that have divided or sdl windows, but not in a two over one or prairie pattern. Just equal size. But IMO it would be worth paying up for.

If I decide to do grids I will absolutely do SDL. I hate the stick on or the between the glass look. Do you mean you prefer this style? This is what I'd like it compliments the new front door.

Yes, that is the style I meant. But I also had a typo in my previous post. I meant to say I would probably NOT pay up for it (over no muntins). But if your are going to go with nice ones like that, it will look very good. Only thing is your windows look pretty narrow -- you should check what the proportions will look like. You don't want too many or too few simulated "panes."

I talked the the window rep when he came out to measure about changing some of the configurations (replacing the three small with two and rearranging the row of four with a picture window flanked with two). He said it absolutely doable. I just wish there was a way for me to see how it will look first. I have a difficult time imaging it and I've made myself crazy trying to use photoshop!
