Cunninghamia from seed?

I was at a large display garden this weekend that had an amazing collection of trees, including a very large Cunninghamia. At the base of the tree were any number of ripe cones so I picked a few up :-) Research indicates these ripen in late summer to early fall. Since they have been hanging out all winter, are they still any good? And I am not at all experienced in growing from trees from seed - I usually let Ma Nature take care of that :-) Anything I should know beyond the obvious?
