I have plenty of time to worry about this but I have just inquired a ton of terra-cotta pots of all sizes that will mainly be used for cacti and succulents. The plants will be moved in indoors before winter/freezing. I currently have an open patio with all my plants on shelving and I have the empty pots stacked upside down by size around it. I don't see any harm in storing them like this in the summer (correct me if I'm wrong) but I do worry about space and where I will keep them when winter comes. I have a few cold hardy new plants in terra-cotta that stay outside year round-so I'm wondering if I should repot now for a fear of the clay pots cracking outside in the winter. Anyway around this? Anyway to keep the empty pots outside or must they move in? Any advice?
