LVP with small kids

Okay....would love to hear from parents who have kids.

We are very close in deciding to get LVP in our large basement (there's carpet in there). We have 2 spare bedrooms and there is a large room that will eventually be a play room/tv room.

When we play with our 2 1/2 year old down there he loves running around and pretend falling and I have to admit that it's pretty nice having the carpet (even though I dislike it aesthetically). It's soft and nice to lay around with him.

So, am I overthinking this? I know LVP will be better in the long run especially as kids grow up and make messes. I guess I worry about little kids running around and falling hard. I suppose areas rug solve that problem.

I'm over analyzing everything, especially since we just found out a couple of days ago my wife will have TWINS! Yikes.

I'm pretty sure we'll get the LVP but I tend to second guess everything especially with a big purchase!

The kids might get a few more bruises but carpet in basements can lead to mold, which really isn't good for them. Do LVP and toss in a few rugs. It will last longer and really be safer.

I am the odd one out; I like carpet for kids. Here's why (it's long lol) :

*Warmer

*Quieter

*Softer. Hard floors hurt my joints, I would imagine it would be the same for kiddos. And it is terrible to cuddle up on an area rug, or doze off on one during a movie.

*Kids play better on carpet. My experience is that with hard flooring, even with rugs, the kids do all their rough and tumble on the furniture, not the floor. They set up their toys on the furniture, too.

*Rugs shift around and need to be constantly readjusted, especially with little ones trotting back and forth. And they can be a trip hazard for those little ones.

*Hard floors require more housekeeping. They need to be swept daily, mopped weekly, rugs need to be vacuumed or shaken often (a difficult task in my experience). Carpet needs to be vacuumed weekly and steam cleaned yearly, that's it. Stuff skitters around on hard floors, resulting in more junk under your furniture, resulting in more housework to clear it all out.

If mold is a problem for you, the problem will still exist with rugs.

Look into this https://www.flor.com for an alternative that is easy to take apart if necessary. You could go wall to wall, and it would be easy to replace when a more adult space is in order!

While they are small, I prefer carpet for safety and warmth. The good news is (if you hate it), you can replace it without guilt when they ruin it over time.

Thank you again, everyone, for the thoughts and well wishes. Not sure why I'm thinking about LVP when I just learned we are having twins :)

I've seen some great rooms using flor.

It's a hard decision and I really see the benefits of both, so all the responses have been helpful.

Carpet does not clean very easily when kids are sick or have accidents on it. You could get some nice large lambs wool area rugs. Or any type. If you go that route, make sure the backing is not rubber as that discolors LVP but also hardwood floors and linoleums etc. You can get special under pads for rugs that are not rubber and hold the rug in place and add a bit more cushion to it.
