Pucker up ! Wade & Gatton Order Arrived !

I received the seven hosta I ordered yesterday from Wade & Gatton Nursery. I knew I was in for a treat when the box was almost as tall as I was ! I opened it up and there were some of the largest hosta I have ever seen inside. Two in particulatr H. Fantastic & H. Witches Brew were over three feet crown to tip. I had to go and buy bigger pots for them because they would not fit into my three gallon nursery pots. I could also tell the hostas were grown in the wild, because several of them had some leaf issues from sun dessication and tree debris on them. Also, some of these are actually originator stock (OS) hosta, and they were the same price or less than the same varieties elsewhere that weren't OS. Anyway here is the haul........

Ice Palace (OS)

H. Fantastic (OS)

Yes that is a potted succulent holding up the petioles. It was rather curved from the trip down.

Another huge one ! Biggest leaf is kinda roached, but I really can't complain considering the size.

H. Mohegan (OS)

This one had a leaf than was almost all yellow so I removed it. Looks like several others were removed before shipping, must have took a lickin in the wild. LOL.

Anyway, I kinda expected Mohegan to be greener and more rugose, but I think it will eventually get there.

H.Puckered Giant

This one is going to be huge soon, it already has a towering effect, well when it's standing up straight.

H.Lakeside Prophecy

Already lookin nice and puckered.

I also ordered a Royal Quilt. They must have been out of that one because they sent me a H. Reptillian instead.

I would love to get such a box! Some are already nicely puckered, I got LS Prophecy very young and will have to wait some years until it looks as good as yours. Reptillian is a good replacement, even if I won't like to get things I haven't ordered without having been contacted...Have much fun with them and keep us updated :-)

Thanks Karin. I actually think Reptillian was a gift hosta they sent. It says gift on the tag, and after reading their order form it seems they always send out a freebie. However, that begs the question, What happened to Royal Quilt ? I think it was possibly not sent or I left it in the darn box. Which I checked they boc pretty well before throwing it out. I contacted them and we'll see how it turns out, no big deal.

I just found my "blue painters tape" in the bottom of the closet. I am going out to tape them up today. Can't have my lack of turgidity showing.

Why not, Ken, you of all know best, there are never enough hostas in the garden...and behind that door may be the perfect hosta garden...

It's a big garden at the riverbank with old trees, totally neglected and I'm thinking about renting it but it would be very hard work to get this one back to normal...

Great plants--I am going to order Lakeside Prophecy. Hope mine looks like yours. Hope you get your issue resolved regarding Royal Quilt.

They actually contacted me this morning about Royal Quilt. Ms. Cheryl said they were out of that particular plant and they substituted Reptillian for it. I will get another one soon don't worry.
