Window Treatments

What if any curtains/ window coverings do you recommend? I have my couch against the window, which I think I read on this site is a design no no and now I know why! The lower half of curtain is shoved behind and hidden. I want going to switch out curtains for navy and white ones just to match the new couch but wonder if any one has suggestions for alternate window treatments. We do have blinds which I don't think I have ever pulled down-perhaps because they are dark brown...I think I also just like having curtains. Are short curtains ever "a thing" outside of kitchens. Moving the sectional isn't an option by the way. Please advise. ( I will be painting those walls but that's a separate post.)

I am so glad that you do not pull that brown blind down! I would remove it pronto ( I guess you can tell that I abhor brown blinds !) Can the sofa at least be pulled forward enough to let the curtains hang straight? If so, get a decorative rod so that you can use grommet top ( or curtains with rings) drapes.

I would be careful when choosing a patterned drape ( no tie backs). You might want to opt for a neutral, lined , solid color. The grommet top drapes can easily be pulled closed if you need nighttime privacy. You will need 4 panels for that window so that they look full enough.

I see the dilemma.... the drapery really loses it's look of, "drapery" curtains, etc. Why not use the blinds and put a simple on trend, "valance at the top outside mounted about the window or a style of Roman Shade over if you don't like the blinds.

I personally think the blinds would look nicer than losing half the curtain. A half curtain IMO would not be a great option. Since it's a sectional you can't have the panels down each side to the floor, etc.

You could do a shade such as above on an outside mount.. not terribly difficult to make on your own either if you can sew a straight line and have basic math skills.

Or a topper would be my next option/suggestion.

A topper such as an inverted box topper or a partial roman or relaxed roman would be nice. The shutters actually don't bother me at all.... I prefer them over your dilemma with the couch unless you can pull the couch out a bit so they can hang nicely. I'm sure you've tried that option already though!

    Inverted box style

    another more simple inverted box

full Roman Shade Outside mounted... the shutters could remain if you choose and they are not too wide if you make a blackout shade they wouldn't show through.

A Roman Topper over blinds to add some warmth?

Any fabric under the sun you could opt for. Just examples of some options!

@grapefruit. I have pulled the couch forward but it closes in the living room area too much. You are correct that it would let the curtains hang better but the lower half still disappears behind the couch which just bothers me.

After looking up valances and Roman Shades, look what I found!

@Porter I love the idea of a valance and had never considered them, thinking they were too old fashioned and stuffy, so thank you! I also like the idea of roman shades-there are so many once you google images! This window is very wide so I am just wondering it is will be really odd and even possible to have three separate roman shades. I also have cats who like to claw at things and so will have to choose wisely.

Many options...... The inverted box that is sketched and or the roman or relaxed roman topper in a nice solid would look nice and it's not dated. You seem to be on the right track you found something above. It's a bit heavy, but not sure how large the room is. You could do three roman as long as they touch otherwise you will see the wood peeking out.

These are separate panels placed very close to one another so you could do 2 or 3.

One long one would be fine too as long as your fabric wasn't a heavy fabric such as a velvet :) then lined would be heavy.. just an example.

The full Roman posted above the window seat shown above is fairly long and no issues.

relaxed roman... a bit more casual.

I won't be doing the shelf but just thought it was so nifty. I really like the idea of three roman shades after looking at that gorgeous black and white example.

It's very nice, neat and updated... I have relaxed in my family room and have 4 windows. Two of the windows are similar in length to yours and no issues. I keep the blinds behind them up and out of site as I keep the Roman up partially as it looks pretty. I can lower the blinds if I want to at night (if I chose to) and not have to lower the romans they look most pretty when pulled up as in the photo above and blinds are behind.

I'm typically not a, "scared" person. Some need privacy some don't like myself. We back to the woods so deer can see in and maybe a person if they want to walk around a very deep lawn around the back and peek :).... Yet, after 5 years of having them I've had no issues.

I do like keeping the ugly white 2.5" blinds up behind them if I do want to shut out the world :) I can drop them.

I would suggest an outside mountRoman shade with the navy/white theme you have going on with your lovely throw pillows/vibe in the space!

    This is SUPER sassy!

Or perhaps something a bit more subtle, like this:

Roman shades can have a top down/bottom up operation, which is SO useful in maintaining your privacy, and light control.

This is a bedroom, but just look onhow sexy that Roman shade is? DEE-lightful!

Cannot WAIT to see what you choose for your home!

Me too and very rarely close the wood blinds from behind the relaxes romans in the house so if you can get a nice roman or relaxed roman you can keep them/behind decor and close the blinds when you need privacy or to block sun.

Please post when you choose and put up what you want... keep it simple!!!
