Living Room / Dining Puzzle

last modified: 9 years ago

Hi,

We're trying to figure out how to arrange the living / dining room and after a LOT of oragami have come up with this design:

The wall against which the TV is standing is a wall we drew in and are planning to add. It wasn't there before. The original arrangement had a closed kitchen (a wall where the island is) and the TV was against that wall. We wanted to open up the space by adding an island with bar stools and expanding the kitchen all the way to the window. (The kitchen used to end at the left most column of the island). The kitchen was also very narrow so we are widening it out a bit. After doing all that though, there wasn't enough room to put the back of the couch a few feet away from the bar stools and to put a TV on the opposite wall. We came up with this solution to add a wall.

Pros: Allows us to have the kitchen island and also the couch / tv formation.

Con: Closes up the space a bit.

We also have no idea what to do with the space behind the love seat. Any ideas? The other issue is that there is not much walking space between the couch and dining table. We've tried rotating the dining table and moving it around a bit but it's not great.

I've received some invaluable feedback on this site and would love to get some feedback on this too.

Couple of things:

  • The columns to the right and left of the island are structural
  • Gas lines / sink cannot be moved
  • The column below the TV is structural
  • The column to the left of the bookcase is structural.

Thanks!!
