For a lighter gray try BM Stonington Gray. I had it in our kitchen and liked it. Our neighbor has it on their house. Looks pretty.

Purrus, have you looked at Sherwin Williams? They have some wonderful grays and you can get them matched/mixed in your paint brand of choice.

I'm having my house painted in two weeks. It's already gray with white trim and I plan on a similar gray. I don't want blue or purple, but I'm okay with a touch of beige. It's gotta be a neutral warm gray. Right now I'm down to two finalists: SW Requisite Gray and Kelly-Moore City Tower. They are different. I like them both. I can't decide.

My house is painted Kelly Moore Plymouth Gray, and it never reads as anything but gray in my light/locale.

cawaps, what color is your trim? I'm doing KM Swiss Coffee (duh, everyone uses Swiss Coffee for trim around here).

I had thought I was sold on Requisite Gray, but now it's beginning to look a little too beige. Plymouth Gray is very nice. City Tower reads a tad warmer to me.

I thought it was Sierra White, but it doesn't come up as a Kelly Moore color on a search. So either I'm mis-remembering, or they've discontinued it, or they've renamed it.

I love SW paints-i have amazing gray throughout the main part of my house. The only thing odd about it is that it looks decidedly brownish taupe in our (north-facing) bedroom. I'll go by there tomorrow as well...

Purrus, Kelly Moore was founded in the Bay Area. Today it's got stores in California, Texas, Nevada, and Oklahoma. Funny assortment of states.

I live in the North Bay Area and KM seems to be the brand the pros prefer around here. We have plenty of SW and BM stores as well, so it's not due to lack of availability. I've had the people at KM mix other brands' colors exactly. In fact, SW Requisite Gray took them three attempts but they got it dead on and only charged me for one sample quart. Now, after all that, I think I'm going with a KM color after all.

huh... do other paint stores have their formulas? I'm not in one of those states, so I'd need to have their paint color matched.

I've only had Kelly Moore mix other brands' colors (Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Dunn Edwards). I would imagine the other brands mix colors as well. Sometimes the formula is already in their computer. Or you take in the chip and/or sample paint and they'll match it from there.

Absolutely you should wait for the shutters you're getting from HD in tuxedo grey from ekena millwork.

time is the issue ... the painter was going to start in a couple of weeks. but it'll take until July 10 for the shutters to get here. And why no samples?? They want me to buy shutters, they need to provide samples. I'm going to head back to my HD this afternoon when hopefully someone will be around who can be more helpful.

Agree, you should wait for the shutters. That could change everything about the color you pick. Look at BM Coventry Gray also. It might be too dark for what you need but something in the colorway might work.

Thanks all! I ultimately decided to get the paintable shutters. They are vinyl, but apparently come primed--hopefully it'll turn out OK. So now I am free to choose any combo of greys! I'm envisioning a light grey body on my house with charcoal shutters...

That's a good plan - you'll have a lot more control over your exterior color palette.

We painted our place Kelly Moore's Hugh's Hue with Swiss Coffee for the trim and Balsamic Reduction for the sashes. We had samples on our house for a few days and asked neighbors and passersby for their opinion and everyone seemed to prefer Hugh's Hue. Plymouth Gray seemed a bit too green and Hugh's Hue seemed more neutral. Now that it's up on the whole house, you can tell that it has a touch of blue, maybe purple.
