The obvious candidates in NJ would be Loblolly or Ponderosa...more likely Loblolly. A bit of a stretch for Longleaf Pine in NJ...even if the cold doesn't get it, the ice and snow will strip it down.

remove a leaf bundle.. put it next to a ruler.. and snap a new pic ...

else count the leaves in the bundle.. and give us the exact measurement ...

if there is a cone under it.. even better ..

ken

Paulistris or englemanni

Here is a pic of the needles.

needles are in bundles of three and just over a foot.

Todd, I just googled 'englemanni' (Apache Pine). What gorgeous species from Mexico!

Pinus engelmannii needles have grey tint while Pinus palustris is 'very green'!

These were green, so I guess, we have long leaf here. Thanks!

Definitely P. palustris.

Salicaceae, that's what I have long suspected (after nearly a decade of living next to it), but every time I googled an image of a long leaf pine, I saw a tree that looked taller but less lush/dense in the horizontal plane (compared to this specimens). (Maybe due to growing conditions, age, or the cultivar??) They are not so commonly encountered in my area of NJ (Zone 7A), but probably should be considered more a conifer option as this one has gone through hurricanes, floods, record snowstorms, drought and "arctic vortices", but I never see them sold in local nurseries or big box stores, and it's a gorgeous tree.

Thanks for the confirmation.
