Stovetop Alcove Storage dilemma

So, we installed the new granite,
updated appliances and painted our cabinets over a year ago. Farmhouse style
kitchen I'd say. Kept the Thermadore stovetop due to its value & awesome
downdraft I didn't want to replace. Left side had a cabinet door leading
to a large area that I stored large gadgets. Hated it. I need my spices,
vinegars near by, but can't decide how to create a useful space. Husband is
retired Kitchen/bath guy so is handy, also had Amish cabinetmaker design island
and could create custom cabinet. Neither helps without a clear idea. We
originally thought we could find a neat antique cupboard or medicine chest to
use or take door for a different look. Hasn't happened. Area is 17"
high, 44" h, 22" deep. Don't need to use all the space. Considering
it needs to clear the stovetop a full pullout won't work.

1. Cabinet door idea?
think area is too large to leave completely open

2. Lazy susan style pullout shelf
might work? See below & then Spice rack installed on inside of door
(limits us to traditional cab door)

3. Accordian style pull up door and then what? (Don't
like the look of accordion though).

As you can see, my Rubbermaid “3 drawer spice cabinet” doesn’t
cut it.

Help! Need some
creative & functional ideas, please
