As far as the 400 thread count Egyptian cotton. There are many brands that differ. It is much quicker to check AMAZON.com Reviews and Answered Questions than to wait for responses here.

Its personal, but NOTHING beats cotton. They're "free" ( lol) nothing to lose. Personally, I'd rather have 500.00 bucks off the mattress and get my own. The best, and WHITE PLEASE.

Wash on warm, dry on perm press, remove promptly and you will have YEARS of enjoyment with them only getting BETTER with time.

There is no such thing as 'bamboo' sheets (or bamboo material of any kind). This is a marketing gimmick/scam (that got Martha Stewart, Macy's, and some other companies fined a couple of years ago).

They take bamboo (but any plant material will do), and grind it up, and through a chemical and heat process they make Rayon out of it. So the sheets are a Cotton/Rayon blend. Bamboo is just a cheaper source of plant material in the third world countries where these cheap sheets are made.

Yes, it does seem that the labels often say 'rayon' made from bamboo. But the sheets do seem to have different qualities than other fabrics. What say you? And yes, ninigret, we may be being bamboozled! :-))

We have both bamboo and 400 count cotton Egyptian sheets. I like them both. The bamboo were more expensive. If purchasing a third set, I would most likely go with cotton.

I prefer sleeping on the Modal, Bamboo, Rayon sheets. They are cool and soft, but because the fibers are not long, they don't last very long before they begin to split. If you're lucky you'll get a year out of them. I buy them whenever I see a good sale on them.

Macy's Sears, KMart, and Amazon were fined $1.26 million by the FTC for falsely advertising fabrics a being bamboo (I guess Martha Stewart didn't get fined; her company may have been one of many that got a warning letter; I remember her name in connection with the original case).

And while I would never stoop as low as ninigret, the FTC did exactly that, as I have just discovered. “Avoid Bamboo-zling Your Buyers” is a publication by the FTC giving guidance to companies about truth in advertising fabrics made with bamboo-sourced rayon.

This is little more than 'green-washing'--trying to sell something based on a phony environmental-seeming connection. After all, they never advertised cotton/sawmill-scraps fabric nor cotton/scrub-pine-blends.

And, to be honest, the pun never entered my mind until I saw ninigret's post.

I have noted that some 'bamboo' sheets are now labeled 'rayon', perhaps because of the warning letter send by the FTC in regard to this. True confession: I was never considering bamboo just because of environmental issues--I just like the features they have.

On another note--has anyone ever had the cotton sheets pill after washing?

Congratulations on your new bed. I know after I got ours I never even noticed the sheets because it was so nice to be in a new wonderful bed.. But back to the sheets, I prefer Egyptian Cotton but the thread count is key. 600 or more is wonderful and no, I have not had good quality cotton sheets pill after washing. Something about good Egyptian soft cotton sheets feel cool to the touch when sleeping. Love them.

No pilling ever, on any of my sheets. And they are all good quality cotton.

Linen sheets? Interesting idea, but I wonder if they'd wrinkle badly. I avoid linen clothing because of the wrinkles, and the sometimes scratchy texture. May be a bit too esoteric for me .:-))

i like percale. it feels so cool in the summer cuz its crisp.

Percale is awful. Scratchy and stiff.

I have Egyptian cotton. 600-700 thread count (I forgot but its one of those). I love it!!! Extremely comfortable. I wash my sheets about every 1-2 weeks and they still look like new. This was 2 years ago.

I like percale and white linen bedding.

i would say that who is next to matters for roughly the first half hour. what is under you matters the rest of the time you are there. once got part poly in error, jot kept saying he did not get my point. 20 minutes, he got my point.

Interesting, havingfun, that you prefer flannel for hot or cold. I've never tried my flannel in the summer, but it might work if that's the only cover you used. Flannel is certainly user friendly in that it's very gentle on the skin.

400 thread count isn't always better than 200 thread count. Often, it's 400 very thin individual threads per inch. 200 count sheets often have thicker threads and wear better.

Having said that, this is a freebie. Feel the sheets. Which do you like best? For me, there isn't anything better to sleep on than Egyptian cotton (I worked in a dept store linen dept in college. I'm picky about sheets).

we no longer use the bottom sheets, only tops and flannel has begun to be not as high quality. i am looking for a source of higher quality flannel, i know i have had a couple pjs and shirts that were actually a thicker higher quality flannel. anyone have an idea where to look?

the reason i discovered about the flannel, is that i never had any in fl. came up here, borrowed hubbies flannel shirt to garden and it got warm that day, found that it absorbed persperation and was not hot. even my mom is sold on it. and i never convince her i could be even a little right on anything!

My flannel sheets are Oasis by Peacock Alley, and I've had them almost forever. They're thick and soft, and have been very durable. I've never had a bad sheet from Peacock Alley. You might try LLBean for flannel, also.

I have two flannel pillow cases that I stopped using because they got too warm. They are soft though.

sorry, for my head, i went over to the micro biotic cotton cases, hmmm.... you know what i mean. so i never use flannel for my head.

I love flannel in the winter. I got my last set at...Target. They've been through 2 years of solid use October thru April and are going strong. I stumbled on some at Ikea, but they were only fuzzy on one side; weird.

For warm weather, it's percale. I really dislike the high thread count sheets in sateen weave (which seems all there is in the stores). They feel icky. But percale is hard to find in stores.

Well, that's not really hard to do in a country of almost 350 million people, especially when the company spams splash screens incessantly. They're all hype, anyway, making simple imported percale sheets sound like Nirvana.

the last time i bought sheets i could still find percale at bb&b. i agree on the sateen, it feels weird and clingy.

FYI--Ended up choosing the DreamFit 400 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, and had enough free credit left over tho get a set of Malouf Tencel sheets as well! Was this a great sale, or what??!!

I think those that love Egyptian and sateen sheets, don't like crisp. Percale is certainly crisp, and I don't like that feeling in my sheets. I want SOFT. :-)

I'm going to be the odd man out here and say that I want my percale sheets to have some polyester in them. My 100% cotton sheets wrinkle (or fold or crinkle or something!) too much at the edges! and I would never iron them - that's too much like work.

Oh my. I couldn't care less about wrinkling - they are sheets after all. I'm sleeping on them, so I would expect wrinkles. Heck I have wrinkles on my face from sleeping on it, so... :-)

My favorite sheets are from Restoration Hardware (RH)--their 50-year vintage all Egyptian cotton percale are wonderful and well priced (about $200 a set for queen). Be careful with sheets that don't say 100% Egyptian cotton, they can be a small percentage EC and won't wear as well.

Regarding cotton sheets and pilling, I think that they will pill if they contain polyester or materials other than cotton.

I don't care about wrinkles in the sheets, but the hems fold over on themselves and won't lie flat. That's what I meant by wrinkled. So I wish my sheets would lie flat, but not enough to go out and buy new sheets - at least not until these wear out:)

My husband and I were always discussing one thing: what is better bamboo or Egyptian cotton. Finally we made our decision that bamboo is better and my husband told me Go to one great website and buy some bamboo mattress and pillows. After one week I thought that we were sleeping on a cloud. The quality is so good that I spent less than an hour cleaning all our new stuff made out of bamboo. We are so pleased that we have already ordered the same stuff for my parents.
