I'm with tooky58 - between 60# hay bales, 50# feed bags, gardening, working out and grooming horses, handling cattle, mending fence, cleaning and refilling several 100 gallon water tanks and doing yard work including spreading out my compost pile twice a year which gets to over 5' high and about 7' wide ...... I think I wear myself out just thinking about it! And yeah, I do sweat a lot! LOL

And when I finish all the outdoor stuff, I clean house, do laundry, make meals, shop for both house and ranch, take care of the doggies and what ever else needs fixin' around the house.

Outside. Kayaking. Bicycling. Hiking. Swimming. I don't do weights or gym machines.

Age 65-I love being outdoors-I do Nordic walking year round and swim and bicycle in warm weather. In winter I exercise in none of those 3 places-I'm in the ice rink!

Jmm1837 you never said where you work out. I'm 63 and for the last 10 yrs I've been in a warm water Pilates class. At home I do yoga and back exercises. Anything to stay flexible.

Always at home, having a home gym is crucial for us. We recently renovated a space in our home to build out a gym for high intensity training https://happyhautehome.com/2017/05/15/building-a-high-intensity-interval-training-hiit-home-gym/

My 'work out' is running errands and cleaning and doing stuff around the house since I'm in my 60's and deal with medical issues daily. I also do a more cardio workout once a week at my local bowling center, where I'm on a league and bowl 3 games. Running up and down my stairs at home is also a workout!

Excavating old slates, stonework and beach scavenging with the dogs-who needs a gym?

I love the gym--the classes work me harder than I could/would work on my own. I go before work (5:00 a.m.), shower there and head out for the day.

I bought a gym membership and used it regularly. It got me back on track with a workout program, then spring arrived and it was much more pleasant to go for a run or a bike outside. I learned from the gym that I loved the rowing machine, so I bought my own. I won't be renewing my membership but I am thankful that I could use the gym to get a workout routine started up.

I have several different indoor workouts I like to do in my studio room. I keep a large basket with my yoga mats, blocks, bands, free weights, and resistance bar. All of my instructors are on GROKKER, Youtube, or Theresa Tapp. My husband and I love to do cardio walks and hike, too.

I do powerlifting/bodybuilding style lifting, so I need big weights and heavy equipment to hold them. Someday I'll have a squat rack but right now, I go to the gym in the mornings before work. It's extremely peaceful that early and helps me be mentally prepared for the day. For cardio, I run outside and school horses. I do have a yoga mat and some lighter weights for home workouts (like yoga or doing an ab circuit).

Jazzercise - at the Studio! 60 minutes, burn those calories and strengthen those muscles!

I go to the gym. There are too many distractions at home. I go first thing in the morning, because if I don't do it right away I won't do it at all.

Happy Haute Home - Very nice home gym! My husband and I have a building just for our home gym. Had a professional company build all the equipment that we wanted and have made good use of it for the past twenty years. Now, at 65 years old, we don't use a lot of the 'extra' machines but are doing more functional exercises without a lot of heavy weights. Will probably sell the ones we're not using so that we can have more room. Love to walk out the door and into my own workout space.

Sometimes gym, sometimes at home. Depends on my schedule. At the gym, there are more options for weightlifting. At home, I have to use my pair of dumbbells.

I start my day practicing yoga in my loft, listening to Pandora Yoga radio. It is nice open area with lots of room. In the nice weather, I follow with a power walk and a few times a week swim laps. I like the quiet and privacy of my home, if I had to drive somewhere I may not go. Before I retired I went to the gym after work and the yoga studio on Fridays.

I've been working out "pretty" consistently for 30 years now. Tried them all, actual gym, at home gym and outdoor workout. Only way for me is to the gym. Need to get in the door and pick a gym located between my work and my home. Go right after work - never home first. I will occasionaly go before or even in the middle of the day but usally it's after work omw home. This works for me! my workouts are still about the same maybe more cardio now that I'm almost 50 but still 10 workouts, 3 sets of 30 reps per workout and 30 mins of cardio. I go almost daily if possible but 3 to 5 days a week is my must! Try and dodge what I call the sinful isles at the grocery store mostly just the deli meats, veggies and fruits. My goal is ti keep within that 5lb tolerance 140 lbs and 145 lbs. it works for me! It takes 21 day - 3 consecutive weeks to build a new habit thats a good or bad habbit. You choose and good of luck. S.J.

Gym, home, outside hikes and walks. The gym is great because they have everything and I would never have that kind of variety at home. Lately I've been dedicated to Pilates, but sometimes make it to yoga, too. I have a treadmill at home which comes in handy, especially if I just have 15 minutes. I completely agree with what Willozisp said about the mental health benefits of exercising outside and if I lived in San Diego it would be feasible, but not where I live now. The summer is too hot.

We workout at home, we decided to make part of our walkout basement into a gym complete with treadmill, elliptical, weights both free and a machine, mirrors on the walls....it works like charm. No need to drive to a gym, more time exercising and the continence of doing it at a time that works for you. Love it.

There are pros and cons. Pros for using a gym: you may be more accountable, you don't have to buy the equipment, you don't have to purchase, maintain the pool and whirlpool, you can use their showers (use their electricity and water, don't have to clean the shower) and their towels (saves on your towels and laundry expenses), you have more choices so you don't get bored as easily. Cons include having to drag your stuff with you in gym bags (swimsuit, shampoo, flip flops, brushes, etc it was always a lot of miscellaneous stuff for me to haul), the drive to and from wastes time I may not have, sometimes all the hauling and driving discourages you from going at all, it's too peopley (I'm an introvert), germs and stuff on equipment, door knobs, bathrooms and public pools (I get infections very easily and if you think about it you can start gagging). I live in SC and the summer is too hot to breath in, much less work out in. And I'm very allergic to fire ants and most bug bites. So outdoor workouts won't work for me. It has to be inside. I have a place we could use in the house but then you have to buy the equipment (whether it's a TV or actual workout equipment) so I've hesitated. I get bored easily anyway so would I just be wasting money. I don't know what I want to do.

My workout is working two 10 hour days in a hospital (no food, no sitting, no breaks and total chaos) and the rest of the week running around working for a builder and staging model homes. I don't sit, I don't eat.... bad, I know. We have a nice little gym in our basement with cardio machines and plenty for weights.......it looks nice:)

Working in the yard is my exercise... bad, bad... I know...I'm getting way to old to not get on a cardio regimen!

fit in where i can get in. i workout both inside and outside. i find parks and beach great for space and inspired by others working out around me. both of which have equipment set up. trails for walking, jogging, or cycling!! i find outside great scenery i love.

Out in the yard and in my basement. Right now, our basement is being redecorated so it's hard to concentrate. Since it's summer, the garden, walking the dog, and mowing 3 acres while using an exmark walk-behind mower is filling in. I'm contemplating my next addition to my basement gym - rowing machine or versaclimber. I used to have a rower and loved it.

I work out at a gym for at least an hour 5-7 days a week, and I don't think age has anything to do with it, I'm 60 and love being fit. I also love hiking, outdoors of course, weather permitting and since I live in Texas that definitely rules out summertime.

I joined two gyms in the past and both went out of business. No refunds came my way and it started to make me feel like I'm cursed. ;-) I also prefer the privacy of my own home since I'm one who loves her music, loves it loud and I sing like crazy and, in my mind, sound awesome while doing so. Yup. Sure, I do..............

It probably depends on what time of the year we have ;) and how much do you know about the body, workout programs, and diet. It's really important to know how to work out by yourself. A lot of people are making some mistakes and they're hurting themselves. During the summer it's also really nice just to go for a run somewhere in the park or in the woods. :) I'm a big fan of fitness classes so the fintess center is the best for me. I'm also getting more motivated when I'm with other people. :)

Going to the gym is best for me, I find if I stay at home I have to many excuses.

I wasn't very good at working out at home, even with equipment available to me. I'd always find something else that needed to be done. I've found joining a gym has given me more motivation to work out. With home equipment, once the newness wore off I'd forget about how much it cost to purchase. But paying someone every month gives me the motivation to get my money's worth. I go to a small gym, a Curves franchisee, where they notice when I haven't been there for a while, whether due to illness or travelling, and will give me a call to see if I'm okay, which is one more motivational push.

I run outdoors to enjoy the fresh air, the scenery, and to track my distance. I am able to challenge myself with steep hills and strides. In the winter I run indoors on a treadmill. I find that it is not the same, instead I use youtube videos to target different areas.

Biking outside, 90 minutes a day, weather permitting. Weight training with a personal trainer, once a week. Yoga daily, at home.

We workout at home. We have a full gym in our garage

We bought cardio and weight equipment years ago to reduce the time needed to drive to and from a gym. I would prefer to work out in a gym for several reasons but know that the practical question of my limited leisure hours takes precedence.

I keep forgetting about the lawn mowing which includes about 3 acres of our 13; raking the seaweed out of the pond that's 1/4 mile around (we don't use the herbicides) and all the dog walking. I also discovered unused muscles while painting the porch floors - two porches that measure 8'x49' - three coats of SW SuperDeck (love that stuff).

Then there are the 3-5 miles each day with this little cutie.

Lawn mowing isn't considered exercise unless you have a push mower. I don't consider sitting in a seat on a tractor or tractor-mower to be exercise. Now, hand raking is exercise and well as hand painting. A daily 3-5 mile walk with your cutie pooch is exercise as long as it is not a stroll. Dogs do tend to stop and sniff and stop and pee and stop and pee again, then stop and sniff. LOL I know - I have 5 of them sniffers and peeing machines. Takes me about 30 minutes to walk half a mile (to my mailbox and back), so you must be jogging to do 3-5 miles a day. Go fer it! :)

celestina89 it's not a tractor. When we were looking for one it was my choice for what we ended up with. It's a 32" deck exMark professional and there's no way to sit on it. Since I'm little it's still work for me since even though it's zero turn, I still need to work with it. If you've ever raked seaweed using a 12' long rake you'd know what I'm talking about. It's heavy and way more work than raking dry leaves. I'm thinking you're picking on me here. My dog's a rat terrier and pulls me along. According to my google fit app we do 1 mile in less than 30 minutes and we do it 3 to 4 times per day. Our land is 1/2 mile deep from road to back property line and we just came back from one of those a few minutes ago. Earlier, we did the walk down the road which can be rather treacherous. We're on a gravel road which is 55 mph and some people don't slow down at all for people or animals. We've had some close calls. I've been an exerciser since being a kid since I was born with a weight issue. It's been a lifelong battle for me to keep my weight off which is something many don't understand since it's usually a behavior or age-related issue for the average person. For me, it's my life. I need to get in minimum of 2 hours of good exercise every day to maintain where I'm at now and it's still not an ideal weight. There's 15 pounds that just won't leave me alone and even my doctor thinks I'm just screwing up. This year I'm hitting the big 60 so it's getting even harder. I used to be a WW Leader and have taken college health and nutrition classes along with purchasing several textbooks from major universities on the subject. Sorry so long.

You do good, Susan - 30 min. mile walk is good range - as for your weight - I wouldn't sweat it. It's the way your body metabolizes food. As long as you have a balanced diet, you are fine. You can't change your body.

A lot of folks even younger than you have heart problems, lung problems, diabetic, high cholesterol and high blood pressure and are slowly killing themselves with not so good habits. You, on the other hand are probably very healthy and that is the goal you should focus on. If that is the case, then don't sweat those 15# no matter what the doc says.

I'm 5.6 and weigh between 125-130#. I went to the doc last year for my annuals which includes complete work up. So, this PA who is obviously a bit overweight, hands me a piece of paper that has a diet on it and tells me I should use it. Then even before blood is drawn, she hands me orders for a colonoscopy, a mammogram, DEXA scan and that I should be taking a low dosage daily aspirin and Vit D - 10000 units a week. I told her if she read my records, that the colonoscopy was done 3 years prior and the mammogram year before and there was no reason to get a DEXA scan unless I show signs of rapid shrinkage within a year or my Vit D is well below average.

OK - what does she know that I don't. She tells me it's common for folks of certain ages. I'm 71. I'm a rancher/horsewoman. Needless to say my blood tests came back all normal. I ignored what she said. I wrote the doctor a letter about my visit. This year at my annual, there was a new PA.

So, trust yourself. You have educated yourself and work hard to find the path that works for you. I hate exercise, but I enjoy physical work which is what I do every day. What our DNA says - we have no control over - well, science is trying to change that too.

We almost exclusively workout outdoors. Either xc MTB in the spring/summer/fall or XC skiing in the winter. We add in some weights at the gym occasionally, but rather sporadically. We are in our 50's (wifey) and 60's (hubby). We also throw in some DH MTB and mogul DH skiing just to keep it interesting, and the occasional bike race.

Home gym for us. We live far enough out of town, and mostly stay at home. We finished our daylight basement in 2015, so we put in a versatile space for all six of us, treadmill, weight machine, chin-up bar, mini-bball hoop. We also included a bouldering wall for the kiddos, which they've enjoyed a lot!

Actually do lifting in the gym but for cardio it's usually walking/hiking outside.
