Entry door color help?

Hello!

I'm trying to decide on painting the entry door of our home.

Here are our options:
1. White paint to match the white vinyl window
2. Brown paint to match the trim of the house.
3. Stain it the same color it currently is.

What do you think?

It's a beautiful door... I'm seeing a gray something such as the aged area on the wood not dark however by any means.

Otherwise, I'd keep it the same.. I love the rustic elements to it though.. hate to see it changed in some way!

My vote would be to stain it the same color. Wonderful house - great front door!

Same color or some bright paint -- no earthly reason to make it disappear into the house with one of the other colors!

    Neat house.

Stain, same color, for the same reasons.

    Same color.

Renew it to the original color. It will be beautiful and have just a little character added from aging.

Limed Oak to blend with the trim and create more contrast in the shadowed entry porch.

    Here are some examples.

I know, the vinyl, non-paintable, bay window is not my first choice.

I would do a darker stain on the door. The deeper contrast would be rich looking. Very nice house. I agree about bay window. Would it be possible to paint the trim on it to match darker stain on front door? That would help.

One more thing, I would update the door handles to oil rubbed bronze to go with other metals.

I think a darker rich stain would look beautiful!

Ok that door needs some help and anything but paint is not going to work. Where are you located? The door has no jamb? Does this enter a courtyard or the house?

To Susan Davis, how do you achieve a limed oak look when it isn't oak? That door will never look like the examples you gave.

I am a wood worker and would love to tell you that it is some solid wood door that should be restored but sorry it isn't and it is worn. Paint will help get a couple more years out of it and looking at it paint grade is what it might have always been.

A bright color would make it a more modern look.

Do the doors enter into the house or do you enter a courtyard? I ask because of the gap I see at the top of the door. I might consider refacing the door with new wood because then it's just really a solid gate like you see below.

Get a highly recommended painter in there to give you his advice about staining it or painting. Then find a local cabinetmaker or other craftsman to give you his advice. Get as much info as you can before you make a decision. If you decide to paint, don't go with brown or beige. Pick a bright color that works with your color scheme. Get advice from a designer on the color.

If it were my door, I'd try to restore the wood and if that was possible, I'd stain it a slightly different, darker color so it'd pop against your current color scheme. Your door is the centerpiece of your front facade and the key factor in any type of curb appeal. As the ancient knight in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade said: "Choooose wisely!"

Wow beautiful home! Very lucky. I like the all white option Beverly designed for you, I think the window on the left should definitely be changed as well

Replacement for that bay window is likely less than $1,000, and BTW you can paint vinyl windows with the right paint.

Yes, if you can't remove it (the bay window on left side) definitely paint that trim. But first decide on the door. Am I seeing that this front door might be a door to an inner courtyard? Or is it an actual front door entry?

The door is actually to a courtyard as many of you deduced from the pictures.

Also, the home is one block from the beach so the salt water weathers the paint wood etc. very quickly.

Beverly, thank you for the great work on photoshop. We just painted the trim so NEXT time we paint, we will go for the darker shade (gorgeous!)

Thanks for all the great help! :)

Looks like a very interesting design. Don't blow it. Take your time and do it right.

Reminds me of Sue Mengers's John Woolf House.
