If you choose upholstery weight fabric you will not experience the problem, consider looking at fabric.com for upholstery weight and choose a solid color chenille that either is a strong contrast or a compatible companion fabric, post pictures, that would help...

Thank you very much! I've attached some shots of the sofa, as well as one of the carpet and the opposing slipper chairs.

I just had them cleaned professionally a few months ago but I suppose I could take but they are still stained and the fabric is worn and nubbly-looking, with impossible to remove pieces of dark lint. They are stressing me out! I made a big mistake picking such a light colour.

I think covering just the seat cushions could be really interesting and fun given the style of your nice couch. Maybe something that blends in with your sage chairs then you could have matching lumbar pillows made for the chairs to make it all look "planned" one example: picture it with seating only
