It could be Striptease, it is also possible that the wider white areas will develop as the plant matures.

Pretty much everyone's favorite medium hosta that does well in the shade is June. If you wanted a brighter look, Dancing Queen would be beautiful in this (or any other) spot.

I'm with DiO. It looks like Strip Tease, which is an interesting hosta but not Snake Eyes and should be much cheaper than Snake Eyes.

Dick--did your SE have all it's variegation as a young plant, or did it develop as the plant matured? Although I suppose if you got it from the originator, you probably got a piece of a mature plant. Nice to have OS, especially with one as distinctive as Snake Eyes.

A surprising number of hostas don't develop their full coloring as juveniles, but usually have a more discrete variegation for a couple of years. June is a good example of this, a very young June has only a slight resemblance to a mature plant.

It also could be a sport of striptease called Mata Hari. Found a naylor picture that looks like yours or looks very close Hosta 'Mata Hari' is another wonderful cultivar coming from hosta 'Striptease'. Recently, many of them have appeared on the market, like for example hosta 'Alan Titchmarsh', 'Gypsy Rose', 'Mata Hari', 'Snake Eyes', 'T-Dawg' and many more. The individual quality of each cultivar coming from striptease has to be evaluated… Differences between some cultivars are relatively minor… Hosta 'Mata Hari' has broad creamy center and strong blue and green edges. There is narrow white strip between the light and the dark center of the leaves. Grows well as all cultivars that come from hosta 'Striptease'. We have planted hosta 'Mata Hari' for several years and grows nicely and vital and has a slightly more yellow arrange center as the "Gypsy Rose".

My Snake Eyes has had those thicker white stripes ever since I got it in 2012 from Hallson Gardens.

I got a small Snake Eyes late last year (but 3 eyes). Looks like the mature one to me. Here's the pic from last year and then one from today!

Kath, I went outside and peered at both my potted and planted Striptease hostas. Then I studied your photo some more. There is something about it that hasn't convinced me it is S although it sure looks like it....but the white is so stark for example just like in Snake Eyes.... and I think there is always the possibility that it may develop some more over time. I think I may be willing for it to change, lol but that white is developing in my mind.

Watch for the colors to change over the summer. Striptease has that name because it has a NARROW white strip. The selling feature of Snake eyes, was that it had a thicker white line. Gypsy Rose and other sports each had their own "special" difference. Kiwi Full Monty is the blue version of Striptease. Suggest you take a photo each month this year and see how yours fits into the list. If it is Snake Eyes, it is a poor example of it, and perhaps, just because it had a white stripe the tc folks grew it on. Many hosta sellers get these tiny little tc's and grow them to sell. Some after just a year or so.

Another reason for getting hostas from hosta sellers who have been growing them for more than a year or two to be sure that you get what you pay for. Or get a guarantee from them that their hostas are true to type...not just labeled that way from the labs.
