Any critter that eats slugs and snails, while not trashing the plants, is a good friend, indeed. Mickey looks very cute. :)

I didn't know they ate slugs. I used to have a raccoon visitor whose running buddy was a three-legged cat. They were just so darn cute I always put food out for them.

Not my friend! NOT cute! We had a whole freekin' family of 5 of them trot across our roof, (sounded like Santa Claus and all his reindeer) leaving poop (lots of it) next to our chimney, then descending down our 40 year old japanese maples breaking branches. From there they dug up everything looking for grubs. They knocked over my hosta pots and I think you are very mistaken for feeding a wild animal. They live in the storm sewers and dig up lawns here. Major damage. Even after we put grub killer and beneficial nematodes in the soil we had to have chicken wire on half our back yard! They "remember and teach their kiddies" what was there so even after you eliminate the grubs/snails the return

Uh-oh, what a nightmare, Babka! What an awful memory. Not all that cute.

Full grown raccoons are big and dangerous. You might tame this little one, but you can never trust a wild animal. And it will bring its mate and offspring around eventually. Quit while you're ahead.

My neighbor had a mom with a litter 4-5? in her crawlspace..$1800 to clean and repair wiring, insulation etc..try immediately to drive it away..but it IS very cute..

I'm sorry that happened to you Babka. Mickey has been very good. He/she occassionally tips over First Frost (I guess they like that one the most?) but no damage so far. I love how some have to be post poops. I'm not an idiot. I know Mickey is a wild animal. I am not taming Mickey. I keep my distance. This photo was taken from my window. Also, I'm an animal behavior specialist. I know how they think. They are animals. They do what they do. It doesn't make them bad. And, it's not MY place, I wouldn't be responsible for it, I rent, but thanks anyway. I just thought it'd be fun to post. No biggie. Besides, the neighbors dog does a fine job of chasing Mickey off every night, too.

We have them in the woods but that is as close as I want them. They would think my gold fish were a tasty snack and I would hate that. I am very attached to my fish babies. They are 7 and 8 yrs old and I morn any that die. I have to keep netting over my pond because of the hawks and feral cats but that wouldn't stop a determined raccoon--they have very dexterous hands.
