First grafting experience

Hello Adenium World,

I recently visited @Marie Trans breathtaking adenium collection and there she inspired me to do my first graft. In addition to so much information she gave me, she also gave me a boat load of encouragement to do my 'first graft'. So this is just a GREAT BIG thank you to @ Marie Tran.

This is the root stock I used. It's not the prettiest but this one didn't seem to flower for me.

This is the stem that @Marie Tran gave me out of her plant. The DR's name is 'Doxon'.

Supplies used: sharp blade, rubber band, plastic to cover, and rubbing alcohol. I thought I would need some super glue, which is the white tube, but I didn't need it. @Marie Tran didn't tell me to use the glue, but I saw it on a youtube video.

Day 3:

As predicted there would be some precipitates. @Marie Tran advised me to poke some holes to allow the graft to breath and not be too moist inside.

After 14 days: I was so nervous...

TADA!! I was so excited! The graft took! If you see to the right of the picture you see that I have replaced the tight plastic bag with a loose one. This will allow the graft to grow.

I am so excited, but hopefully it will start to create buds and flowers soon!! (I am so impatient).

Does anyone have a picture of this particular flower?

I would like to thank @Marie Tran and this forum for all the information you have given me! Great Forum, great people, and advice.

Congrats Jean, well done. Took me quite a few attempts before getting it right and you did it in your first graft :)

So nice of Marie to help you out, I think she is a very kind lady & obviously a great teacher. :)

Jean, congrats to you. Wow...first time...much better than I am. You cut the scions a little bit too long. It is easier for mother plant to feed the scion if it is shorter, and try tighter on the plastic. After you put on the rubber band, pull it tightly down, make sure it is tight, so you don't have a gap when you take off the plastic.

Wow! I am so impressed. What great work. It inspires me to try this myself. Just to see if I can. I always thought about making a pink, red, and white one. Thanks for posting the great work, and thanks to Marie for teaching us all!

Marie, is there a certain time of the year that grafting works best? It's so hot here right now, I didn't know if I should wait until fall.

Lisa, I graft in June/July. (Houston time) April/May still have few cold days. That way, the scions have more time to grow before winter comes.

This year, one friend asked me if she could graft in April, I advised her not to, but she did it anyway. (she tested out) She did plenty, but none took because April still very early.

Perfect! I'm in Cape Canaveral only two blocks from the Atlantic. The warm ocean breeze keeps our temperatures warmer in the winter. The salt air.... well I do the best I can! Thank you so much for the info!!!

Great job! Just be real careful when you start easing off those baggies. Do it slowly over a number of days or a week, don't just take them off all at once. I lost a number of grafts by taking the bags too too fast and the shock was too much change in humidity too fast.
