Wow - a years' long hiatus? That shows lots of patience on your end. They are so carefree outdoors here, that I wouldn't even know how to care for them indoors. Mine pup and bloom profusely every winter - I never knew they could bloom in summer.

My first Clivia took 15 years to bloom because I kept it as a house plant in my warm living room. I guess it got a cool period the year it bloomed. It has bloomed regularly since. I'm wondering if they will get enough of a cool period when I move them from Washington to Southern Florida.

@Mary Jansma Plant them in the ground in S. Florida. They love it there! Unless there is a freak freeze, just leave them out all year. Mine took a long time to bloom because I didn't know about this and I kept bringing it in during cold spells when it got down to 50 and below. They're pretty cold hardy, and I read that they will die back and come back in the spring in some areas.

@rikki_t I wish I had some shade behind our condo for them. I’ve been scouting shady areas on the grounds to put them. Next winter I’ll bring a couple bigger plants down here to Florida to see how they do. They need a cool dry period to bloom. I don’t worry about them when the temps get into the 40’s but I make sure to bring them in before a hard freeze. They currently spend the winter inside with the temp set at about 65 and they bloom every summer. The temps around Fort Myers are unlikely to get to cold.
