New Fireplace Tile: Carrara Marble Style....thoughts?

Hi All,

Sorry but I misaligned the photo's and my inspiration photo is above. I also double posted photo's and can't seem to delete them. Sorry to subject you to the ugly green tile...twice

I could use some opinions about my inspiration photo's and our fireplace. We've decided we like a carrara marble style, either real or porcelain. We are thinking that 3x6 or a 4x8 would be nice. This is what we would like to do:

  1. Remove mirror and frame around it. It's a HUGE mirror
  2. Replace mantle with a simple white one (or keep it depending on budget)

Here's our fireplace. The hearth has a bumper because of our 2 year old. Paint in the living room is Revere Pewter (will not change)

I just came across the hearth with hexagon tiles for the hearth and kind of like it. We would use the subway stile for the face. Thoughts:

And finally, I saw the below hearth had a wood frame and thought that would look good. If we did not use the hexagon then we would just frame it with the tile we decide for the face. If using a hexagon, I wonder if it would be difficult to put in because of the angles on our hearth, which are now square.

Would love opinions and any watch outs that I may not be thinking about.
