Why not just refinish the fridge to match the cabinets ? I think it always best if you can hide the fridge and is normally done in high end kitchens , it's a luxury you have, keep it ! Sub zero is one of the best ! And the cabinet doors are a upgrade. I feel with a new finish in white it would be updated nicely.

I would also paint the fridge panels for now. I'm not sure why the inside bothers you so much -- maybe it's a bit dated, but to me that's a "so what".

But when the compressor goes in your 15 year old sub-zero and you get the cost to replace it, you'll probably decide at that point to go another direction. Repairs on those things are outrageous.

You would be a low information decorator to spruce up a subzero or throw it out for a lessor brand. For one I have a 2700 series sub zero which are a pain and always have issues because the compressor is on the bottom. My repairman who knows more about appliances than any decorator on here-says that the original style are worth every penny and its the only fridge he would ever own. They last forever. I had to replace my compressor on my subzero 2700 series last year after only 9 years. Sorry but it was still cheaper than buying a new fridge which frankly in this case, would not fit into that empty area as the subzero does. yes and I agree-why wouldn't you just get new panels for it-if you get a new kitchen you buy new panels for this fridge.

ok cool, that's why i asked. looks like i'll be keeping the fridge. plan now is to paint the wood panels the same as the cabinets when i paint those and keep the inside as-is for now.

i am not a professional decorator. this is my house. hence, the "design dilemma"...:)

It might be quite an undertaking, but I'd have all the cabinets and fridge panels sanded, stained and distressed in a warmer color (a soft black or coffee color). I'd also replace the panel above the fridge, possibly with a piece of designer clothe.

You can either read up on the best way to do it and tackle it yourself - or get the pros in ! Some companies take the doors off and spray them for a pro finish ! Good luck with it all !!

I would see if I could get front panels to match the kitchen...there are lots of appliances that have false fronts....I would try and replace the doors..

What did you decide? I'm curious and would love to see if you kept the old (but great) SZ??

Who do you call to replace the exterior doors and the inside drawers/shelves for the old Sub Zero? We are remodeling our kitchen and see no reason to replace this unit because it works well. However, we do have a creamy yellow color on the front panels and the faux wood drawers inside.

I have the same problem as the writer. Apparently we both live in Spanish Trails and have similar kitchens. The outside is great. Matches cabinets and I am happy. However the interior is obviously dated. I am searching for someone that has had success updating the interior of their Sub Zero.

Its the woodgrain that dates it. Go on Amazon and search brushed metal vinyl. You will get vinyl sheets that are used in the automotive customization world. 3M and other brands make just about everything from chrome to brushed aluminum. They are very realistic and are what is used on many products we buy today. Easily cut and fit and if installed properly will last for years.

You can also search automotive wrap shops in your area on Craigslist and they can do it for you. Basically your just covering the woodgrain strips.

Put in the brightest whitest lightbulbs and it will look a lot better.
