What type of 'store bought veggie food' did you use and how much and when?

It's possibly the quality of the soil in the bed. What do you mean by "lawn soil"?

Garden Tone will take time to break down and become available to the plants. It's a slow release fertilizer. Where are you located? Your best bet would be a liquid fertilizer at this point. Some will use Miracle Grow liquid fert or, if you want to be organic, fish emulsion. Be sure to dilute them at the recommended rate. Liquid fertilizer can be reapplied every couple weeks.

You can also add organic matter, like grass clippings, as long as you don't treat your lawn. Which raises a question...do you treat your lawn?

Agree with Chris. If you are going to use organic fertilizers like GardenTone then you have to understand how it works - and doesn't work. And a couple of handfuls isn't nearly enough unless it is a very tiny bed. Apply per the label directions. This late you'll need to switch to a quick fix synthetic to correct the problems. Fish emulsion is good but is very low dose and your plants need a substantial fix now.

Raised beds are normally filled with a quality mix of several ingredients - including nutrient amendment prior to planting - to work well. They are basically just a big container and need to be treated as such.

It's around this time when some gardeners can't handle the heat (like me ;) and the weeds take over whenyou're not looking. Keep weeding if you want long season success.
