Hey, Julie! Yes it was fun! My initial dream for that space was always a low table with a bench against the wall and pillows.

Hey Becky...trying to find a good quality round no larger than 42”...

love this West Elm table could pair it with small modern upholstered chairs in a light linen type fabric or white leather....great deal on table! I know you thought white top but if we oair this with white chairs it would be beautiful...

I do like it. Wasn't thinking round at all though. No reason other than I was thinking you were prob wanting me to put a rectangular table. I cannot do leather cause of my cats. Chairs would have to be a cat friendly fabric. They have their claws...

The back wall is 9'1" and it is 8'4" to the leg of the barstools at the island. I wasn't saying I mind a round table just not sure what chairs I could get. My cats have, unfortunately, scratched any leather furniture I've gotten.

What is it about the current counterheight table that you are not loving? Is it because it sort of blocks the art?

Comfort is my reason...we had one for a vacation cabin and my legs where so uncomfortable sitting for long periods of time...and just don’t get the bar height thing unless you need to be up high to see out windows....just more of a trendy thing...plus in your kitchen eating area it will open up air space and visually make it feel larger...I think it will look much prettier too.

It's a really cute set though! My DR chairs that I had recovered are okay so far so I just never know!

I have always really liked that x bottom table at Pier 1.......would work well in your kitchen dining area.

I like it, too, and very reasonable, which leaves more for chairs. The glass comes in 36" or 42". I hope you had a good Christmas!

Julie, should I go with 36" or 42"? The current table is 40"x40". I guess if I need or want 4 chairs I should go with 42"? I think it would look nice to just have 2 chairs, especially since I have 4 barstools. The whole idea behind changing out the table is to open up the space. The kitchen table is rarely used so it's not like I need a large table to seat a lot of people. Mostly, I eat on the couch. :) Thanks and Happy New Year!

If you don’t use the table for dining, why have a table at all? A couple of modern, high backed chairs, a modern coffee table, some shelves for books, and you have a library. Or you can set it up as an office, or a craft room. Just because it’s a "breakfast " room doesn’t mean you have to keep it as such. If you do need the occasional dining space, use a folding table with a table cloth, and folding chairs, all of which can be stored elsewhere. We all of us get stuck on labels sometimes. Just think of what else you need room for, and how else you’d use the space.

I think 36” is just fine in your space with two chairs.......with a 36” you can squeeze in a couple chairs if needed for extra guests.

I am worried about leather or fabric or wicker and my cats' claws, though. Still looking at each one. Maybe the slipcovered chairs.........

Slipcovered is nice can be washed or replaced...also could do more mid century style in a what plastic....

I can only get half of my money out of this table, which is only a year old. Added some dishes, new napkins and rings, etc. and happy with how it looks. Maybe down the road I will get a low table and new chairs, but for now, this works! Happy New Year!

I think the White dishes lighten/brighten it up. And it keeps the cats off of it.
