What color palette should I go with? Should I add an accent color to the white walls or leave all white? What accent color? What sofa color would go well?

It is a small, older 1br place and we have very little money for decor. After purchasing a sofa, there will be just a little extra for accessories or maybe an accent wall color.

The kitchen is black/white. The laminate is brown maple, I think (see image). Later down the line, we are considering exposing the concrete floor. We were gifted a used black iron and maple bed frame (not a fan but it was free). Most of the current linens, curtains & accessories are either white, white & grey, or teal. We have some high quality ocean & beach photographs that I intend to print. These can print pretty large or can make smaller groups of images.

Our tastes are modern, coastal modern, relaxed & artistic. We want the colors to be cohesive, yet most of the spaces I have seen online seem too 'matchy'. We just need a balance. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for any input.
