It looks healthy but doesn't have enough new growth. That results in a lack of leaves and dying of older, more shaded branches. There may be nothing you can do about the shade. But you could prune the tree back substantially next spring to force new wood and more vigor. If there's nothing you can do about the shade you might just need to accept the fact that you don't have a good spot right there for a fruit tree.

I see about 5 trunks coming off the base...is this all cherry? If so, I'd cut the worst looking ones off.

Where the bark is missing could be birds or squirrels using the thin strips for nesting material, I've seen them tear it off my trees.
