I'd wait until the orgy is over, then terminate the pregnancy--let them finish blooming then cut the scapes off before they develop seed pods.

i was once told.. that by the time you see the flower stalks.. most likely.. the energy is already spent ... so.. up to you to cut or not ...

you have high expectations for hosta ... they flush out in spring .. and thats about it..

BUT<<<=== this is root growing time ... they are storing energy for popping up next spring .. so even though you cant see it ... they are working hard ..

as with any perennial .. you are buying a root mass for the future ... ergo.. i never really expected much.. the first year ... and with that level of expectation ... i was usually never let down .... except by the ones that committed suicide ...
