carpet removed from stairs, now what?

we removed the carpeting from the double stair case of our new home (photo is old... from the listing but for reference). originally we were planning to replace each step.what are our options?

spindles are in wood end caps. do we redo the steps, or can we just lay wood next to it and separate it with a piece of moulding or just lay a piece of wood next to the end cap? We're worried about ruining the spindles if we need to take it all apart.

Kat, hard to tell from the top picture what you have there, but in any case, your best bet would be is to call a few local stair company's and have them come out and take a look and they will suggest what would be the best way to do this.

You have a beautiful staircase and a focal point when you enter the house, the last thing you want is to hack this up... you need to have a professional company to do this right.

A local flooring company can knock this out fairly quickly, they will disassemble the handrail assembly, pop out the current treads, and replace with new solid treads.

A neat patterned carpet would be gorgeous. Either wall to wall or run hardwood up the stairs and install a statement runner over the wood. Here's a couple we have installed lately:
