Hi viktoria. I can't help you with those particular cultivars as I don't grow them. In fact I don't know what I do grow since I forgot their names years ago. But what I can tell you is that they need to be totally ripe to taste best. The fruit need to be quite soft when you squeeze them.

The first time I tasted gooseberries was in Moscow,Russia. They can be found in the markets commonly like blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries here. I thought some of the larger riper ones were sweet and pleasant but still tart. The smaller unripe ones were extremely sour like warhead candies. I have heard good things about black velvet gooseberry.

I planted bareroot tixia and hinnomaki red this year and they have grown well. I plan to add black velvet next year. I bought from Nourse Farms and Double A Vineyards and was extremely pleased. I might also try Indiana Berry next year.

Yes gooseberries on the market could be good, in Russia and Europe but mostly they are nothing like your own in your garden, much like every other fruit here in a store is not comparable to your own. I have young tixia, its ok, also new, drops the fruit when ripe, taste ok, but sour, mine came also from Nourse Farm, great nursery.

I retasted hinnomaky gooseberry when it got riper, so far its my favorite for now, but I know they could be even better))))thanks for your response
