Stuck on cosmetic updates? HELP!!

I just bought a new house and the kitchen is half updated. Appliances are great, but tile counters and backsplash aren't my style! So I am going to start updating my kitchen counters and backsplash but need help!

The only things I'm sure on are painting the green walls more neutral and getting a copper sink and fixtures to match my hood....

But not sure if I should go with light counters (cream with caramel veins) or dark counters (black?). Also if I do a light counter I'm thinking coordinating subway tile? And maybe painting island navy? Or dark counter maybe brick or stone? And leave island same as rest of cabinets....

Thoughts? I am the most indecisive person ever! And having such a hard time!

The hood IMO does n ot work in the space it is way too big and the copper connects to nothing in the space. I would remove the cabinets on either side of the hood and get a sleeker stainless hood. I would go with a simplw quartz counter or just match the island counter then a simple large format subway tile paint the island the same as the cabinets

That is a unique type of hood! You have mentioned the green walls here as that would be your first change. Yes, go with a little darker backsplash! It would set it all off for the look!

Do you have photos of the island? Also, how far above the range is the hood? It feels low to me, but could just be distortion in the photo.

There is the island, and side desk area.

I can't find a tape measure but I would guess 30-35" give or take. I'm horrible at guessing measurements.

I'm not a big fan of the hood, I would rather have something more slender and a tad higher up.

White quartz counter tops that resemble marble would look great. Marble would be okay as well but it would have to be resealed and maintained pretty often, otherwise spills might stain the marble. Caramel veins would also look nice depending on the slab chosen, however it may look dated a lot faster.

I think soapstone or a dark countertop in a honed finish.

Range hood is a force fit aesthetically. Needs to be replaced and have more open space around it.

I think like counters with coordinating subway tile would look very good. I like the idea of changing the island color to navy.

I too find the hood too large for the space-it's almost oppressive. Judging by the distance between counter top and cabinet bottom, which is usually 18", the hood only looks to be 24" or so off the stove top. I would feel like it's in my face all the time when I'm cooking.

The upper cabinets and the hood need work, like a total redo. Who can see anything but that!
