how is everybody coping with the heat?

last modified: 9 years ago

we are under another heat advisory for the next few days, 99*+ every day. add in the humidity and it's simply unbearable. i don't think my a/c ever stops running!

the dogs...all they do is sleep. they go out to potty and come right back in. once in a while, they will lay on the rugs on the deck but that never lasts more than 5 minutes then they come inside and lay in front of the floor fans.

how is everybody else doing? i am soooo ready for fall!!!!!!

Hi Nina... We don't have the 99+ days but we are at 90+ .... And the wretched humidity... That's the killer. It's not good for the headaches either....even with the a/c on..... I have two bichons and they go right into my oldest daughter's room...she likes the a/c like Antartica! I'm not ready for fall since that means I have to go back to school.......definitely not ready for that:(. I will take the heat any day:). Stay cool.....

my a/c runs practically 24/7 in this kind of heat. my electric company is gonna luuuuv me!

i do much better in the winter. i don't do well on those 50*/rainy days but if there's no wind, lots of sunshine, i can stay out in below zero all day! guess it comes from being raised in minnesota. :D

My Bulldogs used to like to go out and lie in the 99+ sun.

I see my Greyhound likes to do the same.

I keep a close eye on them, but they all have seemed to know when it was time to go inside without prompting from me.

same for my dogs. they have a dog door so can come and go as they please. in nicer/cooler weather, it's nothing for them to lay out in the sun for an hour or more. in this heat, they don't last 5 minutes. i don't even lock the dog door if i have to be gone a few hours because i know right where they'll be. LOL

The Greyhound and I are just leaving for the local Nature Park. 1 1/2 mile drive.

I had back surgery including fused disks last week and am not too spry. She "never" pulls on the lead, but I'm holding the leash loosely.

Lots of shade, heat at 90 degrees this AM.

I was just saying what a nice summer we've been having here, Buffalo, NY. Low humidity, plenty of rain (some have had too much rain) temps in the low 80's. Lake Erie is being good to us this summer! Not always the case.

My dog isn't fond of the hot weather either. It's only mid 80s but very humid and she doesn't want to go on her usual long walk in the morning. She loves the extreme cold weather, never even notices when it's 10 degrees. She could go on a 2 hour walk and love it but let it get above 70 and she starts lying down on her walk in someone's shady lawn. HAHA!

What I've been doing is giving my dogs and myself ice.

My dogs have stayed indoors mostly with access to plenty of water and ice. We also give them frozen blueberries and strawberries as a treat. We don't walk them until late in the afternoons because we're afraid their paws will get burnt on the hot sidewalks.

we had a stretch of a few coolish days and windows open at night. now we are back near 90 and the humidity is oppressive!

Luckily for us we're currently on vacation in the tropics and luckily it's not as hot here as back home, and just a piece of tech called a dog gps tracker found it fascinating too.
