That's a good price, especially considering the original tags were labeled $9.98 (each). I tend to get hooked by Caladiums being a bit different, regardless. Wouldn't have been able to walk past those at that price.

keeping my eyes open for some beautiful red ones..but until I find some these have a touch of red..and add a little color to the "tropical" section of my garden..

As with a lot of Caladiums the colour will probably change as they mature. You might be in for a surprise.

a couple of days at my house and looking better!..hope to plant today..

That's right. Usually the larger leaves will have more red when they grow. But maybe a few hrs or more direct sun might be better. I've noticed with some more direct sun, the leaves grow in a slightly convex shape, and may get more red. But can get burn holes in them if too much sun. With less sun, they are more flat, or slightly concave, and with more green. I've seen the convex result with a Rasp. Moon that looks just like the tags. Compare yours with the tags. See if the leaf edges on each bend downward or upward or not at all. It's hard to tell from my perspective.

jay..I see a slight concave shape..I clipped off the creased stems and dead leaves..so many mosquitoes I came in..back at it tomorrow..

Finally. I found one locally today and planted it. I had almost 10 to choose from. It was $4.99 in a 1.28 qt pot. Though off topic, the first pic also shows what was sold as a 'Taro Root' which I found at a grocery market today for 22 cents and planted it too. I'm grouping these in the same post because I bought & planted them around the same time.

Raspberry Moon Caladium with Tarot Root:

Tarot root with tag - before being planted. If it grows & propagates I'll figure out how to safely eat these elephant ear roots. At this point it seems to be a Xanthosoma variety:

jay..that's a very pretty caladium!..22 cents has got to be the world's best deal for an ee..planted my Raspberry Moons in these cute lime pots..a little messy..they've been rained on..need a little more potting mix after settling..pic#2..caladiums to plant tomorrow..and ferns, hostas, bleeding hearts..yikes..

I put my Moonlight Caladium in a mint/lime colored pot like yours and it looks great. It looks like you have a couple Pink Clouds there. What is the red one, is it a Scarlet Flame or Red Glamour? I found out more about the Taro Root and found someone to cook it if that time ever comes. Mine might also be called Malanga Blanca. This variety is usually cooked & sliced and tastes like a semi-sweet potato.

I bought some aqua colored pots..so pretty but NOT with my caladiums so I returned them..I decided on another green..inexpensive but easy to move and the color's good..there's 2 Creamsickle (Monrovia pots) and that's my Heart's Delight with my "bonus" plants..doesn't it look better since the first pic on the driveway?..(FYI my notifications doesn't work sometimes..)

I love your pot!..much prettier than my pots..I bought and returned 2 kinds of pots before I decided to use the cheap green ones..color's good right?..I just went out in the dark grabbed a caladium and took it in the garage for a pic!..the Creamsickles are planted and tomorrow Heart's Delight and the "bonuses" will be planted in a green pot too..and who can keep the names straight??..the pic on the tag doesn't look quite the same as the plant..someday hope to arrange my plants and get nice pics..

Yours appear to match perfectly. In a few yrs of casual window shopping, I only found 2 pots that match the plants they contain. They are both product lines. The first is an Allen & Roth Resin Planter with weep holes at the bottom, Model # HDR-035664 from Lowes. It says Southern Patio at the bottom. The 2nd is a ceramic single piece pot/saucer combo with a side weep hole for water to drain into the saucer. A couple local garden centers and WalMart carry it. It could be a Fiesta Ceramic Pot/Saucer - Apple Green by Hirt's Gardens: SKU:

BorderFiesta18380. For the plants I didn't find matching pots for, I painted them to match.

    Resin Planter:

Ceramic single piece pot/saucer combo (right) and spray-painted clay pot (left). Today the Freida Hemple only has 4 leaves with no new shoots in over a month which means it may be nearing dormancy:

I like all of your pots..I've seen that resin pot at Lowe's!..liked it a lot but it was bigger than I wanted..I bought a 12 inch and a 14 inch last fall in the "teal" color..using them for a cordyline and a hydrangea..I like caladiums in green pots..my "cheap" green ones came from Target..I think the color is perfect..question - my caladiums aren't dry but I have some droopy leaves..left them awhile but no improvement so I clipped some..some stems were that way when I bought it..do you know why they droop?..

Yah. As you can see, the Resin Planter is on the big side for my use. Thanks...I'll have a look at Target.

tropicbreeze would probably know about the drooping. This is only my first season with Caladiums. These are the top reasons mine droop:

    1) Transplanting. If they don't perk up after a few days, they probably never will. Leaves that don't shrivel I just leave alone.

    2) Not enough water. If they perk up after a good soaking then it was from lack of water.

    3) Too much water. The days here are cooler now and with less sun than in late June. But I have a habit of watering just as much as in June. Many of my Caladiums in the ground have been drooping as of late. So I've been checking the ground below the mulch and all the droopers are quite moist. As a result, I've backed off the water. I shouldn't have clipped the leaves I did clip because the ones I didn't get to are fine now.

5 & 6) My Moonlight droops if put outdoors. Not sure if it is heat or wind that causes it. But it stops 24 hrs after bringing it in. My Freida Hemple is down to 3 leaves. So that's probably because it's going dormant.

Which reminds me...if you want indoor Caladiums for the winter/spring, you should probably pot their bulbs this month and next. Mine took between 13 days (very large bulb) and 2 1/2 mos to put out shoots. Most took about 1 1/2 months to sprout.

jay..you have such nice plants and good info I'm surprised to hear that you haven't been growing caladiums longer!..some of my leaves were so sad it was obvious they needed to go..I also think in the store they were crammed together and some stems were held down by stems from other plants and now are having a hard time standing up again..they were dry at first..need to be patient I guess..still so attractive and what a deal..considering getting some of those Lowe's pots..an excuse to buy more plants lol..

One of my Candidum Jr Caladium leaves was drooping onto the ground for a week and then perked up after I watered it less.

An update on my taro root that I bought at a grocery store and planted on Aug 6. It is now sprouting leaves after 20 days...just like this post states:

Yes. Photo update on the tarot 34 days after planting the corm. It has been potted so it can go indoors on colder nights and in the fall:

Here shown with a Fireworks Caladium since I had it near. The Fireworks Caladium has 3 different leaf styles. The leaves at the top left have some white around the red splotch areas:

missed this comment from Sept 9..my caladiums have just a few dead leaves now..they pull off effortlessly..didn't keep track but they've been gone awhile..
