Hi there! Your overall look is good. Easy and good places to add color are throw pillows, accessories and rug.

I think an area rug with the colors you want would be a great start (5 x8). Then you can remove the current pillows and add more pops of color with new toss pillows. Sure, you can put a tv where the art is. I would consider a long low console and put lamps on the ends of the table.

I was thinking of adding a few side tables and a coffee table. Not sure if I should go rustic or sleek n chic

Layout wise i had kept the two chairs by the painting wall. That really opened up the space.

If you are going to add a TV where the painting is you will need an attractive cabinet below it. the cabinet and TV will become the focal point in place of a fireplace. Darzy's recommendation of a patterned rug and picking out a color in the rug for sofa decorative pillows will really spark up the space. the rug needs to be large enough for the front legs of the sofa to sit on it. I would also Add a large square coffee table ( 36" - 48" square depending on the length of your sofas) between the sofas. The small square table is useless.

Hey there I agree totally with tres I would remove the middle table but I don't think add a mother bigger one especially if your goin to have a piece of furniture below the tv already.....but regarding the colors go for it! Also your room now is pretty neutral and to the more traditinial end so try not to steer away from that in your new choice because it might look a little mixed up....

Brachaf I am totally confused as to which way to steer. Not sure if I want a more rustic feel by using mango wood tables with simple metallic legs or if I want white marble tables with the more glossy legs ... The current tables are all headed towards goodwill.

Navy blue and avocado green is one of my favorite combinations.
I also like the painting and I wouldn't replace it as it could look fabulous with navy blue and just a little touch of green - some throw pillows or candle holders or any other small decorative object.
Some light brown window blinds/shades of your choice on each window and off white linen curtains .
As you have an open space I'd bring the color palette to the dining area and kitchen as well.

If you look at picture no 2 I am placing a chest between the window and patio door. The color of my blinds is a light wood.

Hi ! Looks lovely as it is - but I appreciate that a tv would be useful. Would you consider having a pop up tv in a cabinet below that lovely picture - as this would keep the look and still allow tv when required - and not as a focal point !!

I love the Alita Basket weave chandy BeyondFrames posted. It would look great over your dining table. I think you are more "sleek and chic" than rustic industrial. But you can find tables that look little of both. :) If you do get a new colorful area rug, that style will help determine your coffee table and side table style.

Here's a nice modern/rustic coffee table I think would look great for you.

Add TV if you use it for that. Put on low dark wood media, make the screen large. But I do like your large gold piece. I would move both sofas into center of room about 20" get a big 36" square coffee table in glass and wood or mental in black. Add basket filled with tall orchids and coffee table books. Remove rd table. Push chairs together squared not angled. Add panels floor to ceiling on all windows. In a chevon pattern. Pick color from sofa plus white.remove area rug no rug over rug. Add more colorful pillows to sofa add a few. Use print plus solid. Add big back pillows on chairs, in color.

Add black back pillows to chairs. Do you have another gold pic. If so ad to that wall stack. Lower one you have 6" no more than 2-3" between pics. Add small sunburst mirror to wall behind sofa on right.

Have you tried putting the sofa that is now under the stairs wall to under the windows and gold painting?
You could then put the TV on the stairs wall.

I agree with travis that you could use a larger coffee table and lose the round table between the chairs.

In dining area new chandelier hang 36" from top of table. Add colorful art piece on wall over Buffett. Or a large mirror in black frame would work too. Remove vertical blinds on slider dated. Add same panels as in living rm.keep it the same when you can see into rooms. You are not rustic but more contemporary I would stay with that look all over. Staining kitchen cabinets darker would work. Dining table looks to big. Go round 40" glass with 4 tall back br leather armless chairs. To update rm. are you getting rid of carpet.? Wood will change the whole look. Then you can use area rugs.

I'm sorry didn't look at pic. Your table is fine and right size. But I would update chairs to leather. I saw teal ones at Pier One. That would add color to room. If you go teal chairs. Use that as yr accent color. Use teal an white chevron print in panels and pillows. Don't use to many accents your rooms are small.

I wonder if you could paint the tall wall that has the gold painting on it in a navy blue. It will make the windows pop and also the painting. It is an interesting wall to give a statement colour I think.

Painting in navy blue the wall that has the gold painting on it is exactly what I had in mind. Quite dark navy blue. So the painting will pop and balancing it with matching lighting and other golden browns- window treatments, sofa etc will bring a lot of character and warmth. Add a touch of lime /avocado green to brighten up everything and the linen curtains will just add softness.

I would love to paint a wall but the wall which has the gold painting is open all the way to the second floor and is huge! Love the idea of the avocado green with dark blue and a few gold and orange accents.

I think navy and bronze, brown, rust....would be great colors to incorporate into this space,,,,,

Hmm, I know it will make a big impact if you paint that wall. But it will not be one huge big wall, because it is broken up by the windows and the stairs. Depends also on how far it goes through on the second floor. It's not quite visible in the picture if it ends in the upper right corner or goes on for miles and miles ;-)

Still, it's something for you to think about. You can upload your photo onto the Sherwin Williams site and play with colour on the wall to see how it will work.

Have you thought about the furniture shuffle? I think it will open up your room and make the TV less of a focal point while you will still be able to watch it when you put it on the stairs wall and the sofa under the gold painting.

Since you have wall to wall carpet I wouldn't put an area rug in there.

Another issue (yes there are more!) are these two windows. I wanted to add curtains to the lower ones but am wondering if it would look odd since the one above isn't directly above...

Just 'ignore' the upper window. I think curtains will add a lot of warmth and dress the room. You will put the emphansis on the lower windows.

Hm......what if you just paint an area, up to the railing maybe and you frame it with mouldings ?!? I have to think about it. Or, even better maybe, paint the wall from the dinning area, move the gold painting there and go on with redecorating repeating the color scheme throughout the space.
you could even add some picture lighting. Ikea surely has cheaper ones and, if only on silver finish , you could spray paint it .

You could also change the white paint with a soft light grey.
move the love seat on the wall with window and find some art with dark blue and gold or some metal work to hang above it.

I'm not sure though where is the upper window.... isn't it on the other side of the stairs?
