Touching back to the curtain issue...your pix only show one window and the sliding doors...in view of what is shown there adding real draperies may be difficult as there seems to be little room to have them completely open..which is most likely to be ...most of the time....

also the airy and angular elements of the room sort of calls for a softer look ...for this sheers are my fave...they soften up a crisp black and white color theme while finishing up the blank window feel...

saying that ...I really like "special" sheers...like a more textured sheer linen...or an embroidered white on white thinner sheer...to get the perfect understated but fabulous look you may have to get fabric and have them sewn..for fit ...floor to ceiling ...and width...not too wide to hang nicely when pushed aside...

To be clear I think bare windows are okay ,too..

Anne yes! I need a basket for the slippers. They are traditional Swiss house slippers worn over outdoor shoes infoirs! My teens love them! So yes to corral them in a basket because they're ugly! But what kind of basket? square? Round? Straw?! The area is so oriental

I think you are at the tipping point here ...with clutter...the detail and beauty and drama of the screen is lost a little bit with all the competitive eye catchers

The foyer table is the inevitable magnet for transient stuff...so rather than small decorative pieces ...I would try simpler more functional pieces...on the top of the table maybe one sleek long bowl...to drop things in ...leaving a smooth top open for temporary things you may want to drop there...

Underneath ...maybe try a long low silhouette basket to just catch but not really conceal the slippers...just a small concession to keeping them low and tidy...I sort of like them there as a homey..."people live here" touch

I see you removed a section of the screen...it fits better and looks good....but.....it does throw the pattern off...having the end section wrap the end of the table probably felt odd but I liked it because it featured the pretty border of the screen and interrupted the view of all the doors a little...adding an unexpected twist to the foyer feel...

But I admit it is definitely one of those "you had to be there" decisions...

You might consider a stool that doubles as a receptacle for shoes and slippers and such. Ideal place for sitting to put on and remove footwear.

The table and screen are too much. Or add a lamp on the table and still keep the screen. Less is more so remove all the stuff on the table except for the lamp. Then add one or two things on table.

Rita my husband really didn't like the folded end of the screen. Even though the pattern is s bit off now, it's not too noticeable so it works well.
Agree that it's all too cluttered so I'll have a go at putting less items out.
What's a "silhouette basket"? I do need to keep those Swiss house slippers somewhere and as they go over outdoor shoes they're huge!

My reference to the low silhouette was to suggest a low profile basket almost like a tray with little sides so the basket doesn't become part of the decor as much as containing the slippers...and keeping them organized..and also easy to slip on and off without having to dig them out...and lastly to expose the most beautiful carving at the bottom of the screen better...

Too bad about hubby but I expected it may be hard for some (maybe most)to get the esoteric of the unusual twist on the screen...

And....who wants to see something that bugs you...the minute you walk in the door!...

I would start with the white stool and the white flower ...then expand on that...the basket?...a trunk?...container for the shoes....could maybe be a shot of color?...the container will be the biggest challenge..is it inconvenient to put the slippers in the closet ?...or is there a spot nearby where a more casual basket can sit?...

Trust your instincts...they have been pretty good so far...

Will have to say the coffee table with the tray - if this is still be discussed - does have an unstable look. You said it is stable, but IMO the look is unstable and doesn't look right. I do like the look of the 3 together, but something with not so many sets of legs, simpler would be nice as well, but I do think the black metal and the glass looks good in the space - beautiful flat by the way-great job, you have some beautiful things and an artistic eye.

Thank you for all your kind comments. The coffee table is stable enough to survive a large golden retriever, teenagers who put their feet up on it, and numerous parties! For now it stays. But we are definitely on the lookout for an alternative.

I think you need to decide if you want the rug to be the main focus or blend into the background. Knowing that will lead you in a specific direction.

Definitely not the main focus. I don't want too much going on. Husband thinks a black rug would be too much but that's where I'm leaning. It's also why we haven't got a rug yet as we haven't found anything we both like.

I love the look of a cowhide one but just can't bear the thought of real skin!

I have pets so I shy away from anything too plain and too dark where fur and fluff will show. Just a thought.

Anchor the seating area with a rug large enough to have front legs of seating pieces 6-8” onto it.
