Bread box/Drawer Liner

My new kitchen will have a bread box in a drawer, as well as 4 drawers under a window seat that will have dog and cat food and treats.

I am hoping that some of you that have them can give me a little insight on what you are happiest with.

The Rev-a-shelf version is less expensive but only has the rails and lid. There are versions from Custom Inserts and kitchen source that are full drawer liners made of plexiglass. I also found some stainless from Bradco - they seem to be the nicest, but they sell only to the trade (which I can deal with, it is just more of a hassle).

Especially for the pet food, I am leaning towards full liners. Does anyone have experience with any of these brands or others that I have missed? Any preference on sliding versus hinged lids, or knob versus a finger hole?

I had mine custom made by Kennedy Hardware in Indiana. I use mine for dog kibble. It has a sliding, solid lid. It is 17 1/4" wide, 9" high, and 19 5/8" deep. A year ago, it cost $145 plus $30 shipping (it's heavy!). It is made from stainless steel. I'm mad about it! Keeps the dog food clean and fresh, no bugs, no mildew, no dog getting into the kibble. They make many products and were a delight to work with. I highly recommend this company.

I use an ordinary drawer for my bread. It has a clear plastic removable liner on the bottom, otherwise there's really nothing special about the drawer. I really like keeping my bread and baked goods in there...I think it keeps them fresher longer than when they just sat on top of the counter.

I also just use a drawer. When I discussed it with my KD, she told me the "bread drawer" inserts are no better than just using a drawer. She also said that, in her opinion, they were not worth what they cost.

So, like Lisapoi, I just use a drawer...and I'm glad b/c I ended up moving it to another cabinet once I had moved back in and started using my new kitchen!

For pet food & treats, I strongly recommend using something that seals so it keeps the mice and bugs out of the food/treats. We us popcorn tins from The Popcorn Factory for ours...a 6-gallon tin for food and a 3-gallon tin for treats. The 6-gallon tin holds 16 pounds of dog food.

I used a popcorn tin (sitting on the floor in a corner) for decades. Trust me - my new stainless bread box drawer liner keeps the kibble just as well and it SO easy to use - just open the drawer, slide back the top and scoop away! No bugs, no rodents and I've been using it now for just over a year. I'll never go back to popcorn tins!

And my drawer liner was not that expensive and I'll have it forever!
