Bright green walls, can I do something about them?

So I picked the colour in the shop, but it turned out like that. I want to have minimalistic design, removed some bookshelves from two of the walls they were hanging on. But now the bare walls are blinding me. My parents are not too eager to repaint... But I'll talk to them again...and again.

- what if I put some curtains: white or black ones? It'll be expensive and maybe won't fix stuff.

I don't know what to do because I used this room exclusively for sleeping, computer use and reading. And now I only sleep in it. Because anything else I do even during the day makes me irritable. :D

You can see the tile floor in the last photo, there is no rug at the moment.

The photos were taken at 3 a.m.

wait, how old are you? You can repaint if you choose to..

It is not surprising that a bright green is irritating to you nor is it conducive to sleep. When you chose that color what were you trying to accomplish?

Ok, I know I can repaint, but father argues with me, because I chose it, so I better stick to it now. He says it's his house and he doesn't want me to make a mess from it by repainting. But I don't know what color could also fix it. The room is too bare and the walls will blind me with any colour. Maybe if we add some patterns or something.

PS English is not my native language. Sorry for the mistakes.

visualizemaven, thank you for trying to help me. Appreciate it! I picked the wrong color because it looked beautiful on the sample paper. But when we painted the enormous walls. I think you get it... It makes me irritable and I cannot stand on the computer for long hours to study for my finals... During the early hours the colours are not so damaging to the eyes, but when it is sunny(my room is southern) or I turn on lights during the night... Big no no. :D

What colour or pattern to choose to repaint?

More photos from the room at 6:20 a.m.

how old are you? that looks like a very small bed.

try a large wall hanging tapestry. wow. that color is something! lol

get something in white/black and soft green or gold colors.

then do some bamboo blinds for the window.

Ok, I want some calming colours, I don't want to waste couple of thousands of our currency, just help me choose the right paint for that room. The bed is small, but what's that all have to do with my question? :D Jesus, yeah we are not that rich in our country. The lowest salary starts from 340 lv (roughly €174)

I agree with all of visualizemaven's thoughts and I can't wait to hear her ideas.

In case you do decide to paint again, a nice light blue-grey would look good with the floor tiles and be more relaxing. Ask the folks in the shop for a grey with blue undertones. Or a creamy off-white. Another option is greige, which is a combination of grey and beige. This is a bathroom of course, but you can see how calm and soothing it is with the grey-beige walls:

Hello - I observe that you have red bed cover and a reddish looking floor. Because red is a complimentary color to the green it will make it look a lot brighter. Wonder if you can substitute something for your bed, and maybe add a rug to the floor. Think soft navy, black charcoal grey, off whites, etcetera. Avoid red orange purple and warm tones. Good luck! That's a good point suz_bonham. I saw the floor as a chocolate brown.

Никола, can you clarify the colour of the floor? If it is red, I don't think my blue idea will look good at all.

I hardly think some wall tapestries will cost thousands. since you said you CANT repaint at the moment, I was giving you a choice of how to cover up the green paint. I don't care about the bed, I just said it looked small. thought you were 13 years old or something. pardon me. no need to get defensive over some wall paint! we are here trying to give you ideas.

you said your father wasn't going to buy new paint. you said help you work with the green color. you want paint colors? your floors look tan and brown. how about a pale blue color? or a tan color? blues are calming and will help you to study better.

    pick one of these

the colour of the floor is brown.

@Beth H. Could you please stop spamming.

PS: Don't edit your comment, your tone is the thing I don't like. You can't fix that.

    Thank you.

lol spamming?? i'm one of the most helpful people on here.

i gave you a list of colors to work with and an idea for your walls. why you insult me?

You know, since English is not your first language, i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt. There is no tone to my comment. You are mistaken and quite frankly, a bit rude. I was kind enough to give you some pointers on your room, but apparently you mistook my help for something else. I wish you the best on your room endeavor.

What do you think of blue, then? It must be a a more drab or smoky blue-grey, or you will encounter the same situation you are now in.

Just from the words you chose to describe your reaction to the green, you seem to be someone who is very sensitive to colour. If you know that to be true about yourself, do not choose blue which can trigger depression. In this case, choose an off-white.

The best way to choose paint colours is to get various samples of different options, paint them onto large pieces of white cardboard, and move them around to different places at different times of the day. That way you can get a better idea of how things will look in your space. I think your room is past the point where that would be useful though, so another good thing to try is to gather many paint chips (the small pieces of painted paper at the shop) and bring them home. Try to match the lightest colour of off-white or grey in your floor. That is guaranteed to coordinate with the floor and will make your room light and bright.

Incidentally, what colour were the walls before?

The spamming comment must have been made and deleted while I wrote my novella there.

Don't worry about it Beth H. I think this is a combination of extreme stress, bruised ego, and cultural differences. Those of us who are around know you're legit.

thank you lindsey! thought I was losing my mind for minute! and no, he thinks my prior comments are spam. i thought my tapestry idea was good seeing that he couldn't repaint. I figured maybe if he covered the walls with something it would help. shows how much I know!

and as far as cultural differences, perhaps one should seek advice from ones own if they have issues with mine? I will not take the brunt of misguided differences. I've worked with many others outside this country and have never had an issue. they have all been very pleasant.

I had close to the same color green on my walls when I was young and living with my parents. I loved it, my parents were the ones that hated it. I paired it with turquoise . Maybe some wall art would tone down the green. A nice large scarf hanging on the wall. I see you have a lot of books. Is any of them out dated and of no value, or do you have some magazines? Maybe cut out picture of where you would like to travel, or your favorite spots to go to in your country, your favorite sport, or anything that interests you. You could make a collage of picture on your walls. Look to nature to see what you can use on your walls. Maybe a unusual twisted tree branch. Look around and see what is affordable and visualize how you can transform it into a work of art. "Necessity is the mother of invention"

It is hard to discern if you want to paint the walls again.

I like navy blue with lime so this is what I would do with the green walls.

Navy bedding, light colored rug, new light fixture and art that combines the colors of the room. Paint the bed white or pale gray.

The colour before that was green close to that but - wallpapers-and they were not so flat/they had patterns. And there were 2 shelves hanging from every wall with books on them, but now I sold most of my books and the shelves.

I love emmarene's idea of using dark blue on many of the other areas of the room (bedcovering, posters, scarfs, tapestries, curtains). The dark blue is calming and it won't look like you're trying to hide the green. I think they look great together.

It got to be something like that.:(

Now it doesn't even look the same color, haha.

You're right, it's lovely in morning light.

It's a really similar shade to the one we had in our dining room. Emmarene is absolutely right, navy blue looks fantastic with it.

Now I'm going to go all Mom on you and say that you should not be seeing your bedroom walls at 3 am. You should be sleeping!! :-)

Looking at the morning pictures, I have another thought. Part of what is causing you fatigue when using your computer is its location in front of the window. The added glare might be part of the problem. Is it possible to arrange your desk so the computer is on the other leg of the L, with the wall as backdrop instead of the window?

Ugly ugly ugliest wall ever. REPAINT

I was just going to say relocating the computer may help with the eye strain, etc. but you beat me to it Lindsey!

Hnkona please let us know if you can or will be repainting the walls. Otherwise, I think Beth's ideas to hang inexpensive bedspreads or patterned fabrics will help take the eye away from all the green.

If you are going to repaint, I am voting for a soft sage green or a softer limey green (think the inside of a perfectly ripe avocado) :)

Also, if you can install inexpensive roll up matchstick wood blinds, that will allow you to control the light a bit. I sleep with a sleep mask - which is something you may want to consider as well.

Lastly, I would try and cover the floor with a grass mat look - if you focus on bringing elements of nature into your space, it will help you feel at peace there.

    Best.

You can either repaint or maybe a difference in bedding or furniture pieces might help offset the green walls.
