Are you quilting this weekend? July 28-30

Good morning Quilters! What have you been doing this week? I haven't had time to sew since last weekend. DD has needed our help with the girls all week. I haven't had time to sew since last weekend. I did complete the center of my Tropical Twist and it is ready for the borders, which are cut and sewn. This is the point where I get bogged down sometimes. I don't enjoy measuring for borders. So that is my goal for this weekend, add the borders.

We have overnight company tonight, so cleaning and cooking today. I'd like to get some quilting in after that. I've been quilting baptist fans on a quilt top that's been sitting for over two years awaiting inspiration. I bought one of the Westalee rulers for my Tiara. It's working quite well, but it's tediously slow. Starting and stopping for each fan really slows the process down. Hmmm. As I was writing this, I just realized that if I start the fans in a clockwise direction instead of counter-clockwise, I'd end up right where I need to be to start the next one. I'm so glad we had this conversation. That should save a tremendous amount of time and eliminate those starts and stops on the quilt. The things we learn by doing! I feel foolish that I hadn't figured that out before now. At least I've done only two rows.

Not this weekend. I have company for dinner on Monday, so between shopping, cleaning and prep, there aren't enough minutes left. I haven't done anything now for two weeks and next weekend, we are away to see newest DGGD #2. I am beginning to have withdrawal pains.

Tomorrow morning my clarinet choir is performing at the International Clarinet Association Festival. It's a pretty big deal to be invited to play and we are very excited! We'll be performing for several thousand clarinet players from all over the world.

So, the rest of Saturday will be recovering from that :). I think we also have dinner plans with friends tomorrow night. Sunday is free though, so I will continue working on cutting out my Civil War Anniversary quilt I started last weekend.

If I make a decision on how to quilt this one I will, otherwise no. Also I happened to see a FOLD in my backing which, unless someone comes up with some kind of quick miracle cure, I MIGHT have to un-pin-baste it and do it over and I DON'T want to DO that.

Lois, I think I've seen those templates demo-ed at quilt shows, and they always just go from one fan to the next pretty quickly. Glad the lightbulb came on for you! :)

Rita, how big/bad is the fold? If I noticed it after quilting I'd probably applique something clever to hide the fold. :) But if I noticed it earlier I'd probably have to fix it.

I never even thought of trying to hide it but it sounds delightfully ingenious, I'll have to check it out. I hate making that sandwich.

I have a junk piece in the frame to practice for Tim's quilt. I got a Top Anchor wreath template to use on the squares, but with the ruler platform on the long arm it is a close fit. So I have ordered a slightly smaller dahlia pattern to try. If it comes in I will practice and hopefully get his quilt loaded and start quilting. If it isn't finished by retreat I'll owe Jackie $10. If it doesn't come in I'll work on the tops for the trail run quilts due in November.

Well, another rainy Sunday so I've been quilting. The fold that I found on the backing was in one quarter section so it wasn't so bad to un-pin baste it and straighten it out. I also came to a decision on the quilting, I'm doing an all-over meandering paisley that I found on Leah Day's website. Oh, and I had decided to try to make this a lighter quilt for Summer and used flannel instead of batting - well that's a joke, I think it's going to be heavier than one with batting. Oh, well, live and learn. I'll just have to make another one, huh?

Rita, I'm glad your backing issue wasn't too bad! I have a "summer" quilt on my bed now - I didn't put any middle layer in it. It's just the top and backing. It's a Bonnie Hunter top, though, so with all the seam allowances it's almost three layers LOL.
