What color to paint exterior of this old farmhouse?

Totally renovating this old gal! Hubby doesn't like the outside painted white. There's a lot of exposed exterior wall space--if that makes sense--so a little color will go a long way. Also will be painting matching barn in back of house which is also visible from the street. Thanks!

We did a century old farmhouse in 2 different greys with a midnight blue door. It would look nice against your white columns and black shingles.

Wow, what a lovely house! It has a bit of the Victorian with the shingles, but is also somewhat Greek Revival and then is a classic farmhouse look. Sooooo, I think I would stick with white or cream trim, and then do probably 2 colors on the body, shades of the same color. What colors do you like? Do you want it to look bright and sunny or more stately? What will the main color in the interior be? What color is the barn? I assume you are on acreage, so there is probably no other building close to you? Some ideas:

I actually like it in white, but I think this photo shows a house with just a very slight color difference between the body and the white trim. How about a very pale buttercream/vanilla color with the white trim? That could be subtle and beautiful. You could add some gray accents (pulling in the roof color) as well as just about whatever other accent color you might want.

I am saving an 1843 low victorian home. My exterior palette will bea creamy white, brighter white trim, grieve mutations mullions and shutters with robin egg blue door and a shade of lighter blue for the ceiling. The fish scale will be the becolor.

I think you have to be careful with yellows in an area with a lot of snow, it tends to look dirty and dingy next to the white of the snow. Btw, love, love your house, how lucky are you!

@Kevin Patrick O'Brien and decoenthusiaste: We must have been searching at the same time because when I posted mine, deco's was already on there! Yes, I think my favorite is the buttercream/white/gray or dark green (isn't that black green known as Charleston Green?) - a little color, which would differentiate the trim, but would still look classic. Can't wait to see what you do - post lots of photos! Just out of curiosity, where are you located?

Lovely Greek Revival. The columns on the porch are great. Paint it a neutral, but highlight the mullions with a darker paint. I also would paint the ceiling of the porch a pale blue.

While I love crisp white trim with just about any paint color, I think a house such as this deserves a vibrant paint.

My barn is painted in SW crabby apple

Sorry, I meant to post more. I think the house would be lovely in a pale yellow or buttercream color, also something in a soft natural green, or in stone or putty colors. But the barn would be great in a traditional red which would contrast nicely with any of the other colors.
