Thanks to bronchitis, two cases of hand foot and mouth, an ear infection, and my inability to find art or a console table for the entry wall, I’ve made zero progress in the last few weeks. However, it’s given me the opportunity to slow down and just live here for a minute.

My kitchen isn’t functioning the way I need it to. I have a pantry I didn’t have before and just as many cabinets as I had previously, but for some strange reason I seem to have about 20% less storage space. I did have a small island at the old house that I don’t have space for here, but that simply held all the baby’s stuff.

I’m thinking I need a buffet or some kind of storage in the dining room to bring some sanity to my life. I use my large glass and stone bakeware regularly, as well as my storage containers, and I have nowhere to keep them. I have my less frequently used pieces in the storage “dungeon”, but this is all stuff I use at least 3-4 times a week.

The dining “room” is 11’4” by 9’6”. Existing table is 60x36” and seats six, which works for us 95% of the time—we set up a folding table the 3 times a year we have more than six people here. It’s on the “replace in the next year” list, but I need some kind of solution in the interim.

Would a round table work in that size space at all and still give me the ability to seat six? Or could I fit something on this wall if I stick with a rectangular table? Ignore soda corner, we’re getting a fridge for the garage this weekend.

With the current bench pulled out to sit comfortably at the table, you have about 2 feet of space. Something like this cabinet that is 18” deep wouldn’t leave a walkway when someone is seated.

Or I could get something vertical for this wall and move the switch—could go 24” wide.

What about a big full size console storage in the entry to hold extra items...it is a nice big area that will work.....that dining area is not wide enough for any kind of storage cabinet..

That sounds so strange, but it could work. The entry closet is plenty big for all our coats and shoes. I just need/want a surface inside the door for keys and mail, that sort of thing.
I’m just struggling to find anything both wide enough and high enough. Everything seems to be in the 50-60” range, I’d like something closer to 72”

Maybe move around a few things in kitchen cabinets that are not used regularly and store them in the storage at the entry and that will open up storage in kitchen for everyday use items...I will see what a I can find

That’s my issue, everything that is in the cabinets now gets at least weekly use. I had a large cabinet for pots and pans and a slim cabinet for my baking sheets and griddle at my last house and that seems to be the problem here—I have to split my pots and pans between two cabinets and my sheets don’t really have a home, they’re in a deep drawer. Maybe I can find some storage solutions that will make the cabinets work better somehow. I do have some lazy Susan space I can clear up and move some things around to free up an upper maybe use that for my Tupperware. I hate having to hunt for things!!

Also really like this one, but if I'm using it in the living room and storing kitchen things, I'm not sure glass is a great idea. I don't think it would look right if I frosted the glass. It's only 64", though--I think 68-72 would be perfect.

I like the first one HIWE posted. I have used that and I think HIWE has too and it is really nice. I would make sure you can "comfortably" get around the length in your space though. How long is the arrangement you have now? Remember, this would be deeper than your current arrangement.

Yes, I mean on the "entry" wall. I think that is where HIWE was suggesting you place something for "extra" storage. Before I spent that money however, I think I would re-think all your storage and organization features in your kitchen and pantry. When you moved in, if you are like most of us, you just wanted stuff out of your boxes. So, I'll bet re-organizing things in the kitchen and culling out what you might not need frequently would be a first step. There are tons of inexpensive cabinet organizing devices you can get to help organize what you have. Take everything out of the cabinets and then place the items where you use them most. Organize, organize, organize and that will buy you a lot of space and make your entire kitchen more functional. It is a chore, no doubt, but time well spent! Put things you don't use everyday, farther away, and this will free up frequently used spaces. See how that serves you.

Almost forgot. I am worried about all those paint colors. I think they are too timid. I also worry about the undertones. I think you need to step down one hue to get the dramatic look you seek. Too light a color will wash everything out. You may think it is "safe" but try a deeper shade of your favorite or even go to another tone. You can start with the outside wall in the living room because it will be your focal wall with the TV anyway. I think you might need a whole wall done before you can really tell for sure. Just my 2 cents.

I have a couple of ideas for the kitchen I'm going to try, need to spend some time looking for the things I have in mind.

I've been living with the one coventry gray column for a few weeks. It's...fine. It looks nice with the sofa. It looks nice with the floors. But it's just...fine. I'm still in love with the Boca Raton blue. Do you have any color thoughts, Flo?

That is a great color for your space. What are colors in your rug again. Or are you thinking of this color just for dining room?

The rug is a dark grey/black and ivory, so the sky is the limit on color.

We're considering painting our tiny master this SW Cascades--it isn't going to "look bigger" no matter what we do, so I think I'm going to make it dark and posh. Switching out our rustic bed frame for a slim brass headboard only when I can find one to free up some additional walking space.

And yes, all over the main living space (LR, DR, and hall), since the LR and DR are an L shape and the only way to paint the DR a different color would be to keep the back TV wall an accent wall.

It’s drying now, I’ve had the cans for weeks. The other half said “I don’t care, pick a color, as long as it goes with the couches.” He’s tired of my dithering, lol.

I think that blue is going to be to "country" with your traditional sofas and dark traditional tv cabinet...I would go much lighter with the Coventry gray

Or really saturated like Galapagos Turquoise

If wanting to do a dark green be sure it is more on the true deep Kelly Green......add accents in black and white or Navy Blue and white...add gold metallics would look great...

It’s BM Chiswell Blue. I like the accent colors they’ve used in that photo.

Yes it looks great with orange but you need to bring in some neutral tones too! It is more collected look...but if you don't follow through with items and colors like in the image you will not get the same effect..

I'm not sure what you want. We have been all over the color spectrum from purples, to yellows, to many other choices. Remember in all the photos you see, the paint colors are "lighted" by photographers and aren't usually going to look that way in your spaces. So, while it is good to look for photos for inspiration, ultimately you have to figure out what you want. It is always a good idea to carry some aspects of your main rooms into your other rooms, just for cohesion, so I would be careful of large changes from room to room, i.e. your bedroom. To each his own, but that is my guideline. Otherwise, things can look really choppy. So, figure out what your main color palette is going to be with strongest color in your living/dining room and then we can expand into other rooms. Are you leaning blue or green in main living/dining area?

I like the Oceanside blue for your room , I went for a bold turquoise in my living room and have never regretted it. Oceanside is a gorgeous colour.

What do you think about doing a navy blue? Dining room and the wall that runs into the family room as a accent.....than a soft neutral for the other walls..accent with bright light blues, Kelly green and oranges.....Than do the Kelly green And navy blue in bedroom...than the rooms will be more cohesive....

BM Hale Navy is a great backdrop for bold bright colors.

HIWE-you know I love the navy blue and doing the wall in living and dining with perhaps the trim color if it is right on the other walls could work well. I like everything you said. How bout you Lee Ann?

I was actually meaning to bring up the hale navy last night--I'm drawn to that color. I was unsure if it would look ok with the blackish gray in my rug. In that photo the floors are similar to the color of mine and that looks very nice. I like that very much.

I see on the site it's paired with the woodmont cream, on monitor that looks really nice together. Is that kind of what you had in mind? I think I'd be ok with a lighter neutral on the rest of the walls if I have a BIG pop of color somewhere. I think that may be part of why I've been holding off on painting...the purple goes with nothing, but it makes me happy. Not because it's purple, just the presence of color.

I really like the idea of using the kelly green in the living space so that it flows into our room.

Woodmont cream will be very yellow...I would go with a much more neutral gray....

Ok, I like it. Does the coventry have too much of a green tint? I've got them side by side in another window and my eye can't tell any difference.

and work much better with the Hale navy. But with that said it is worth a try if you already purchased the Coventry Gray...they are very close
