Do you clean your chimney yearly or when it needs cleaning?

Do you clean
your chimney yearly or when it needs cleaning?
My 6’ of 14” ID Chimney has been sweep “almost” yearly since the late
70s. I feel I am wasting my time most
seasons when a broom sweeps the soot off.
The top of the fire box’s taper collets more soot vs the pipe or Box
walls. I have burned 2-3 Creosote
Removing Logs not to see much differences compared to sweeping “Needed”.

The Pic is
after a year’s burning. “”My question is do you see a need for
cleaning yearly vs what’s needed to inspecting yearly
””? I usually burn seasoned Ash, Oak and Pecan
24/7 during the season (when needed).
IMO, I see a need to sweep the Soot off the top (tapper) of the
box. Please share your opinions and
Thanks!!!

IMO, sweeping is needed to remove creosote and other crud that can cause chimney fires. If you're burning properly seasoned hardwood AND letting the fire burn hot enough to minimize creosote and create enough thermal lift to remove soot you're good. My info is "dated" as we grew up in a farmhouse that was heated with coal and wood stoves and soot, creosote, hauling in fuel and hauling out ashes was daily life. Left the farm in '70 and other than occasionally burning logs in a fireplace "for effect" if the house I was living in had one that's my knowledge.

I have observed neighbors that had fireplaces who had no clue how to use them. They'd build a small fire, one or two small logs and that was it, this led to serious soot and creosote build up. If you're burning wood, BURN it! If all you want is flickering flames, get a gas insert. JMHO.

Agree 100% with exmar , Still heat with wood and inspect and clean as required , have never experienced creasote in any stoves !

It's time to fine tune the needs this winter or Past in some cases! I am in the Blocks for the Real run after some practices. I have had a Very Good Supply of Wood Green to Over-Seasoned.

I am having problems loging in consistantly into what I feel is live, active sharing. I am not seeing what I feel is active info.

Please give me some tips as to what the problum could be... If this is getting out!!!

    Hello loger_gw,

" I am having problems loging in consistantly into what I feel is live, active sharing. I am not seeing what I feel is active info. "

I don't understand what your communication problems are. "Active info" is not something you can expect in a 3-year old message string.

" Please give me some tips as to what the problum could be... If this is getting out!!! "

I don't understand what "tips" you need. Your message does appear in this forum as an add-on to a 3-year old message string, so the age of the message string pretty much guarantees not a lot, if any, reading by knowledgeable participants here. Probably your best bet would be to start a new message string asking what question is uppermost in your mind, and provide more details on what your situation is. This link might be relevant to your question. Click on it.

But you probably should start a new message string, asking the question that is uppermost in your mind. Whatever that question is.
