Rangetop bluestar vs wolf

We are deciding between the BSPRT366B and Wolf SRT364GX. We love the BlueStar for the potential that it offers us in wok cooking. But are afraid of the open burners and the maintenance/cleaning. Does anyone have either of these and what are your thoughts?

You can find people who think it is easier and more difficult to clean an open burner tray. It is a very personal decision. The only reason I would want the Platinum vs the one like the RNB is the 3K more in power. Read the reviews about the griddle and grill. The griddle is just an overlay. You could buy a really nice griddle overlay in different metals for different purposes. Some people think the grill is kind of hard to deal with but that depends on what you are using it for.

This is a video that shows how the regular BS is cleaned. I don't see any showing how to clean the grill. You can put foil on the pull out tray to make it even easier.

If you want to cook with a wok, the construction of the burner would be most important. The BS is uncapped so the flame goes in a more upward direction on high. The burner has more flame in the middle. This is a picture of capped burners(Thermador and Wolf) on the top and uncapped (capital and BS) on the bottom.

I actually have Wolf and it works well for me because I use big, pretty heat conductive pans and I use the simmer a lot but if you wok, then BS would seem better for you. The cleaning would seem 50/50 to me but a lesser consideration than the function of the burner.

Thanks wekick Has anyone else made this decision? What did you end up going with?

I definitely prefer the burners, both for cooking and cleanup, on my BlueStar range compared to the burners that I had on my prior Wolf range.

@glc203 I'm in the market for 36" range and am looking at either BlueStar RNB/Wolf/Miele. How is the BlueStar griddle? I love the idea of the infrared griddle on the Miele & Wolf. Is your Miele oven the moisture plus model? Any issues? I've read a few threads on here that talk about problems with knobs, probe (undercooking) & bread burning using the MasterChef modes.

I'm in the same boat. I am interested in either the Wolf 48 inch with Wok burner (awesome 35k BTU) vs Bluestar platinum 36 inch. I am a bit worried about the daily clean up with splatters from doing everything from eggs to steaks. I am medicine resident so often have long shifts and now expecting a baby and I know I wouldn't want to take out all the grates daily and wash them.. Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks

I ended up going with the 36" Bluestar. No regrets here, the wok cooking is amazing! It's really easy to clean. It has open burners and everything falls into a foil lined drawer below the burners. This powerful range is super low maintenance.

    larazb,

I had a Wolf sealed burner gas range before my open burner Bluestar RCS.

The Bluestar is far easier to keep clean than the Wolf!

@larazb I give my grates a thorough wash 3-4 times a year. Otherwise, it's just a quick wipe with a sponge.

@larazb we ended going with the wolf and it has been ok. If I were to make the decision now, I would get the blue star with the wok.

Thanks @Jay Walsh. Can you explain why?
(btw the wolf I'm considering is the one with the wok burner)

@alishaes did you end up getting the BS with the griddle?

I have a Bluestar RNB. I had a RCS at a prior location. I love the range. Simple and powerful. Nothing really to break. On the old RCS I had an issue with oven control being sloppy. This looks to be resolved in my new model. My complaint on the new model is there are large gaps between the cast iron cook grates up to 7/16 of an inch. Bluestar says that is within tolerances but I feel for $6K they should do a better job.

@Tanzi M i I did not get the griddle and have no regrets. I love it's power and simplicity. I chose this range over Wolf & Miele. Installed in 2018 and I haven't had any issues.
