This could have been written by me. I wanted the gold nugget and fukushi but order from Harris is coming tomorrow. Thinking about taking all tree in the house for a test to see where and how to place them. No more tree till next year. Or???? Maybe just the Fukushi?

No more trees for me either, unless I find a pixie. I found some at Whole Foods in SoCal and the family devoured 4 bags of the stuff. I peeled it and took it to disneyland with us.

Maybe I should wait also. The shipping is so much lower with Harris. I had it in my cart, but I'll hold off. I have a fukushu from Logees from last year and it has grown very quickly. It was loaded with blossoms when I left (we're on vacation) so I hope to find fruitlets upon my return.

Well, a one year old Fukushu is not that big of a deal right?? It is still little and easy to be squeezed in somewhere. Yup, just checked out. I think it will be a cute companion for the Meiwa :)

Lol.. You guys are funny. I was so close to ordering the Bergamot and Fukushu but stopped myself because I am trying to be realistic with how much room and space I have to grow all of them as the trees grow up. My Nagami Kumquat died this past winter but I saved a few fruit for seed and have three seedlings now growing, plus I now have a Marumi Kumquat (and the fruit tastes pretty good) and a Centennial Variagated Kumquat that I ordered this year.. As for the Bergamot, I want it bad, (tea please) but I already have 2 sour oranges that will more than likely be great also for tea and marmalade etc.. If I do talk myself into getting one I will order it from Harris this fall..

How many kumquats and sour oranges do I really need, right? Wait, am I really asking all of you other enablers that question? ? :D

I never had a kumquat and no idea how they will taste. Meiwa might be safe because it is sweet. How is the Marumi compared to the other two varieties? I wish I could taste them all. :)

Susanne, I can only compare the Nagami and Marumi Kumquat and the Marumi had a slight edge over the Nagami. The peel was thinner and a bit sweeter while the pulp had more juice and acidic orange flavor. As the Marumi tree grows and ages the fruit should be a bit larger and usually tastier..

Yes, enablers for sure!! Lol. Susanne, the Nagami has a strong flavor that is not for the faint of heart. I equate it to eating a ray of sunshine ;-). My daughter and husband love them and probably ate 90% of the large load on my two trees. I ate some, but I did throw some in smoothies (they are very healthy). I have also seen recipes for pies that look good. I expect a large crop this year from my two large bushes. They are beautiful trees - especially when loaded with fruit. I have not tasted any other kumquat so I have no reference point. I will try to hold off and wait for Harris for the bergamot. My trees from Harris have grown very well. You guys are tempting me so much....:-)

Laura maybe we can trade some kumquats next year :) I bought the Meiwa because it is suppoused to be sweet. The Fukushu just because it is originally from Japan which was my home for 3 1/2 years. We'll see how it will taste :). With the arrival of the new trees from Harris I felt a little bit of unrest thinking about winter. This is definately the last tree for quiet some time to come. Tempting or not, this is it.

sanguinelli is on my wish list too. But really I should not. Or maybe do a pre setting in the house to see where is will all fit over the winter?

I found it at OSH. It's a smaller version of Home Depot and Lowe's in California. Seems like 4winds is preferred supplier to OSH.

One of the reasons I am staying away from the sanguinella is that it isn't easy to peel like mandarins. And i need to start buying other types of fruit trees. You know, for variety.
